Police told people to stay away from this area, but today we're going to explore it.
This was a local hangout spot for decades, but over time things got out of control and for a few years people were told to stay away. Although it's surrounded by highways and businesses, this beautiful area offers some history and enjoyable scenery. The main highlight of this location is the black bridge, which was built and used by the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, but today is used by a short-line railroad. This train bridge also allowed daring individuals a place to jump from into the plunge pool below.
►First visit here: • Jumping From A Train B...
►Erie RR Part 4: • ABANDONED Erie Railroa...
►Abandoned train trestle: • ABANDONED Erie Railroa...

The concrete roadway was the old rout 502. It got rerouted when the turnpike came through. There was also a wall to the left of the creek looking upstream.

My favorite part is the mixture of nature with the man made. It seems that we construct useful things and when we no longer value them nature comes along and reclaims it's territory in amazing ways. Thanks for sharing.

Well, first of all you never go out onto a railroad bridge or trestle on a line that still has traffic. Even if that is only once or twice a month. Railroads are very unsafe. But I agree with your assessment that walking between the rails would be a lot safer than out on the ends of those bridge timbers with ice on them. I put a comment on here explaining how unsafe it is to trespass on railroad property, but it apparently fell on deaf ears, so I deleted it. I had 40 years in the railroad industry, so I have quite a bit of experience on the subject. I was relieved when JP decided to get off this bridge. There were no safe places to be if a train came. Even if he laid down on the outside of the track, there's a good chance he'd be hit by parts of the railcars and end up on the rocks or the water. And no longer be alive.

Great explore & interesting area!!!! Love the underwater video as well!!!! I used to jump off of some dangerous places into water, but I could NEVER see myself jumping off of that bridge. Too small of a margin for error & once your feet leave the ground, there's not much you can do to change how & where you're gonna land. There's a flipside to what you said about the person who did the graffiti on that ledge. Either they needed a U-Haul to carry their cajones..............or a teaspoon to carry their brains!!!! Thanks again for bringing us along for another explore!!!! 😀

😊. Yep those things high up like stairs and bridges with see through gaps set the willie willies off lol. Glad that the police didn’t close this off completely to swimmers and explorers aswell, otherwise we would have missed out on seeing this video 😊. Also wanting to let you know that your underwater camera’s waterproof functionality is working well, we didn’t get the slightest bit wet LOL. Was an awesome view and could understand why that current was a bit freaky, it well and truly knocked the JP submarine around a little bit. Awesome explore as always JP. 😀

I have to say, your entry up on the Railroad brought back some memories. All my friends could jump off the bridge after a good rain. I would muster up the courage only to retreat. One friend teased they were throwing me off. I had to remind them I was their ride home. Back then us dumb kids never packed any food.

😁😁😁Enjoyed!!! Nice work. Was that originally a Erie Line or a DLW line, they ran side by side, I am always fascinated by both lines - amazing entities. Their structures so well built. Just unbelievable they could not survive. Just look at the structures the DLW have left behind, bridges, tunnels, cuts and fills, hotels. I love rail history - especially rail lines that cut through the mountains. I know you have the same rail passion. Great stuff. Keep it coming. That area is loaded with rail stuff. Erie, DLW, Lehigh Valley, CNJ, Reading and others.

What an amazing adventure, beautiful place! There is no way I would jump off the bridge either, but I think I would swim in the calmer parts, the water looks clear. I was nervous as you were walking on the bridge too, I couldn't do it. The underwater footage is always a favorite and it really showed how the water turns into a whirlpool in that area, I can see where it may be kind of hard to find the surface and we got to see some nice sized fish again. I agree, I love seeing trees that grow in different directions like that, they are very fascinating. Cute little inch worm! Even though I said the underwater footage was always a favorite, the whole video was wonderful! Beautiful photos too! Thank you JP! 😊
