You really didn't get to see much of Oslo! Even if you're not into museums (of which there are many), and prefer walking around soaking in the local atmosphere, I would definitely have visited some of the numerous parks (especially Vigeland park and Ekebergparken - in addition to the statues the layout and nature is worth a look), taken a scenic walk along Akerselva, taken the sub-surface up to Holmenkollen ski jump (the view from the top encompasses the entire city) or to Sognsvann for a nature walk around the lake. The ride up there also provides an interesting view of the city. There are also sections of the city that have been preserved from the mid 18th and 19th century which are interesting to some. The geographical center of Oslo is in the middle of the forest in Nordmarka (both Holmenkollen and Sognsvann are entrances to the vast forest). Even if you're not into museums, I would recommend the Folk Museum at the "museum island" Bygdøy. It is basically an outdoor park with historical buildings ranging from the viking era to the beginning of last century, with different plays and crafts on display. There is even a large stave church that was moved from its original location. As others have mentioned, there are also lot of cafés and restaurants, different events are always taking place. I would recommend purchasing an "Oslo card" which gives you free access to public transportation (bus, tram, subway), most museums and even some boat rides (not the tourist sightseeing rides, though).

yea the sculpture park completely slipped my mind!! we did do a nice walk along the water from the opera house to where the musuems are. when we took the fjord tour. the outdoor park was included in the ferry we went on! but because we were heading back to the states we wouldn't have been able to get back in time. Thank you for those suggestions!!

You should have visited the Vigeland sculpture park and walked up the river of Akerselva. Also, how about the trap 12, to see all the beautiful architecture and nature.

You can drink water from the tap in Norway! Fill it up! Its free, and the just as good as the water in bottles. The same thing here.

You guys missed so much in Oslo if you are into cultural and historical themes. There are lots of museums of all kinds. And there is a large park with lots of statues made by one man, but it might not be something for people that dislike nudity statues as all of them are of people of all ages without clothes on. There are also many very good restaurants of all kinds. The nightlife is rather good for people that like that as well. I am sure that some in the hotel you stayed at could have pointed you to lots of nice places to go if you asked them. You could also have visited the Oslo Visitor Center that is rather close to where you stayed. And you could have found tons of information on what Oslo has to offer online.

Definitely has stuff for people that love museums we aren’t as much into museums and mom is a little more conservative. I love good night life but momma not so much. We enjoy walks and seeing day to day life. We almost booked to have the private sauna but seeing that the saunas were so close to people walking by she wasn’t as comfortable. We LOVED Bergen. It’s always a journey to travel with a parent and my main goal was to keep her comfortable and do things she would enjoy. We loved the fort and wish we spent more time there.
