Thanks for a really nice video, and kind words about Oslo. The city might not have as many grand old buildings and architecture like other famous European cities, but what it lacks in old architecture it makes up in eclectic architecture, hidden gems, and great diversity. Just to build on this comment -> Since 1380 until 1814 Norway was the weaker part of a union with denmark and in 1814 we were traded to the Swedes. It was not until 1905 that Norway became its own nation. During those periods Norway was exploited for its resources and not really invested in as a country ( we got our first university which you passed on Karl Johans gate in 1811). That is why you dont really see alot of old buildings in norway, cause apart from churches and the larger farms, there was little investment into Norway from its owners :)

wtf do u mean chill multicultural vibe??? there is nothing chill abt oslo, several shootings and stabbings happen more often than before because of the immigrants, oslo is full of trash and tagging unless u go to the richer areas, but even then you’ll find trash and tagging, oslo is definitely not a beautiful city, there are better ones in norway with less immigrants, let’s not act like this isn’t a big problems

what do u mean people are the best? norwegians are sooo judgemental and close minded people who judge u on everything, i’ve lived here my whole life and it’s hard to keep norwegian friends because they are like this, plus they LOVE immigrants and are afraid to speak up against crimes they do that destroy the city/country. Maybe they’re better than americans, but i promise u norwegians are definitely not the best, i even hear from norwegian friends that they don’t think norwegians are very open minded or necessarily nice. it may also depend on where u live, but i’ve always been judged by norwegians so

@@Jacobgribbin Well, that is partly true and more impactful for the western coast of Norway and all the way upp north where it's straight out to the Atlantic. Remember that Oslo is at the end of a fairly long fjord with limited circulation, and in summer it simply heated by the sun/air temp. But of course, say the Gulf stream didn't exist, the temperature would be significantly lower also in the Oslofjord. I'm glad you enjoyed Oslo! The reason the water in the Oslo fjord is this warm, is because a couple miles south of oslo, there is a quite narrow and shallow pass in the fjord (you probably noticed the "Oscarsborg festning" en route to Oslo, about 45 minutes before arrival). During WW2 they made a huge wall under the sea to repel u-boats there, which was later torn down. Anyways, because of this, the water is not shifted that much and can warm up during the summer. During the winter most of the Oslo fjord actually freezes, and you can do some ice skating if you are brave enough..

Østbanehallen (the old Eastbound Train Station) and Oslo Central Train Station are connected and together form the train station complex. The shopping mall extends through both and is connected to another shopping mall (Oslo City) by a walking bridge. Vestbanehallen (the old Westbound Train Station) by City Hall and Aker Brygge (which used to be an industrial mechanical yard) has been turned into the Nobel Peace Center. In the latter half of the 1970s, tunnels where built under the city proper, connecting east and west railways and the National Theater Train Station was built, connecting the train and subway stations. Østbanehallen and Vestbanehallen were then repurposed (Østbanehallen only partially, as it is still considered a train station). Just a few years later, new tunnels were built to lead vehicular traffic passing thru the city underground instead of congesting the city center, which has since turned largely pedestrian.

I believe the water is good because of several reasons 🤔🫣 One reason Norway isn’t frozen over is because of The Gulf Stream. A warm stream coming from the Straits of Florida. That might be a reason. If you take a swim in some fresh water lake in Norway it’s usually colder than the sea. It was about 21-22°C in the water when you were swimming, is my guess. That cools you down to the normal temperature inside. Even 20 is nice. That’s just a thought I had though, so don’t know if that would be the reason if I Googled it 🤭 Of course as we all know.. the sun is also helping a great deal. Might be more.. might be something totally different. 😂

Norway has always been a monarchy. However, we were under Danish reign from 1537 to 1814 and under Swedish reign from 1814 to 1905. When Norway became independent in 1905 the people of Norway elected the new king of Norway. So the "modern" monarchy is kind of a symbol for Norways independence. The king and the royal family are quite popular despite previous mentioned controversies. They are politically neutral and act as a gathering institution for Norwegians and the nation. So far working for the best for the country.

The reason the water was not icecold is because you were there at the best possible time of the year. Bathing temerature *can* reach as hish as +20c in the oslofjord, from say the last week of june to like the first week of august. If you come back in winter it will probebly be 1c degree abowe freesing. (and the golf-stream ofc..)

The Gulf stream, is why we don’t freeze to death, while swimming in the sea in Norway. That is also why we live our lives way up North, and the sea doesn’t freeze over during winter 🥶

99% of all people outside Scandinavia think it’s “so cold” in Scandinavian countries, and yes, it can be, specially in certain inland places in the winter. But coastal areas are not cold in the winter but on par with for example British islands. And the summer in certain places is actually not that bad, record heat in for example Oslo in the summer I think is around 35 degrees Celsius, July temperatures in Oslo is usually in the low or mid 20’s. Because the long days with sunshine from 4-5am until 10-11pm the temperature in the fjords can get very pleasant, 22-23 is actually not uncommon. Compared to the coastal areas of Britain which is typical around 13 even in the summer it’s pleasant.

Thanks for covering Oslo "The Tiger city", The Origins of the name is conteded, and just who inspired it is not really known. But there is a passage from a book by Knut Hamsun that I think fits well: Goes something like this in English: "It was during that time that I went around and starved in Kristiania, this wonderful city that no one leaves until he has had the marks of it claws and cut into him" Edit: Oslo's name was Kristiania in the olden days. (Kinda surprised you called it the most beautiful city you've seen 😅 (But you did catch nice footage from the pretty side of its face) The area around the opera house (The Barcode area) is in most citizens eyes an eyesore. The "old city" area with its charm has suffered for it. Vigeland Park is beautiful. All the green lungs of the city is kinda Oslos pride. Not many cities have that many within such a small area. Downtown Oslo and Karl Johan street can be a nightmare for introverted Norwegians, and its not very pretty imo. I used to be an addict so i've seen the worst the city has to offer though. But even if its 14 years since i kicked my heroin addiction, there is still a big BIG totally open market smack right in the middle of the city centre. And we were the overdose capital of Europe for a while for that reason ( amongst others ofcourse) BUT: In how many capitals can you jump on a subway, a team or a bus, and be on the edge of pure untouched wilderness within half an hour (at the most)? That is my favourite part of living here. To be able to escape into the forest on a moments notice when city life gets the better of me ❤️ (Did you notice on your flight into or from the city that you can see Oslo... Oslo..and then suddenly wide wilderness? 🥰 About the Royal guards, since you asked, they are just symbolic, and I think they are ridiculous. Edit: Winters here is hell if you're not into skiing 😅

@@Jacobgribbin Thank you brother ❤️ Respect back to you for travelling the world. I forgot to sub yesterday, but now I have ✌️ Going to watch more of your vids for travel tips since my girlfriend and I have just started our mission to see the world together. First stop on that dream ws Paris just a few weeks ago. Beautiful city, but we were unlucky to end up there just 4 days before the Olympic Games started, so it was really hard to get around on pretty much every sort of public transport. We stayed in Montmartre and almost every way to get to the south side of the Sein was impossible. Keep up the good work, and I've seeing you around. If you ever come back to Oslo give me a heads up here and we'll show you "our" Oslo (the hidden gems) Our next trip will be to somewhere warm. Winter is coming... 😅 So we'll defenintly use your channel for tips

You asked for a local`s view on tourists watching the soldiers in front of the castle. That`s pretty normal in Monarchies in Europe. We don`t mind it at all. It`s so common that we would have thought it would be weird if they didn`t attract any tourists, actually :D

Thanks for the positive video! But to be fair, you went to the most common tourist places and did not even go to the nice parts of the city (aker brygge, bygdøy and the older area that starts after the castle). Super cool that you liked it so much but Oslo can be soooo much better with some local guidance ;)
