if you want to see the snow & the canal lit up at night defs aim for mid-Feb :) but otherwise I’ve also seen videos of Otaru in summer and it’s beautiful too so might just depend on what you want to see

hello! planning a solo trip to Hokkaido (Sapporo & Otaru) sometime in January. was it safe?

Omg yes absolutely! Japan is the first country I solo travelled to (I’ve been twice) and I didn’t have any bad experiences, but obviously still need to be aware of your surroundings and not be too reckless 😅

@ I got snow boots! It’s cold and very slippery in some parts so I don’t recommend regular shoes.
