The hole in the top of beaver lodges is for ventilation. There are at least two underwater exits from each lodge but they need a source of fresh air. Once the pond is frozen over they don’t leave the lodge during the winter except to swim under the ice to retrieve sticks they have embedded in the ground under the surface as a food larder. The lodge is heavily insulated with mud except around the ventilation hole. The temperature inside the lodge in their inner room that is above water stays above freezing just with the body heat of the beavers. They are monogamous and mate for life.

That area looks like a prime candidate for a habitat restoration project! And remember, beavers may alter an area, but they don't devastate or destroy it. As a keystone species, many other animals rely on the habitat that they create. You could see the moose/game trails from the drone footage!

@@samvalentine3206 very much so. I used to walk in the woods with my grandparents or play in the woods on old fallen logs with my brother. Walking sticks are great: paint them, carve them, add colored twine/jute. etc, leather straps, beads, etc. Collect sticks the bundle them up and sell them for kindling. Sell bundles to woodcarvers. Collect and use for kindling yourself as well. You are not going to run out anytime soon. Collect long pieces to sell blanks for walking stick makers and carvers. If I could afford it would it, I would buy semi-long sticks to build small log cabins, like with Lincoln Logs. I would go blooming crazy with all of that material lying around. I love to build and make things with wood. Next comment: Perhaps beavers have been depleted due to trapping in the past. New name suggestion for the farm: Split Rock Acres. You are going to have such a wonderful adventure now and in the future.

Hi Fred, I'm 64 partly disabled but I've had a dream of having a big piece of property for many years and developing it into a homestead. However I've had to adjust my dream from owning 100 acres to buying 26 in central Pennsylvania having moved from Montana. We talked with realtors, drove around for probably 2 months or more until we came across the property we finally bought. I want to encourage you to do whatever you have to do to realize your dreams. The nice thing about dreams is that they are adjustable.you can make it happen if you never give up. I would love to talk to you over the phone if you have any interest and could figure out how to keep our phone numbers private ...any way you can do it!!!

Great fun watching u'll explore the property. Did ull get ur Christmas tree? Never seen a rock split like that. Split Rock would be a great name for the property.

It looks like you will be able to Process your own Fire Wood on the new Property with all of the fallen Trees.

Al, you need to take some of those downed tree trunks and split them and make a couple benches around the fire pit.

I would definitely do what I could to remove the older dams and dens. That way shouldn't have any issues of flooding if alot of rain. Be terrific to see that as pasture with natural springs.
