I too am a cat lover. My last cat lived for 18 years. Was strictly a house cat, solid gray color and a short hair variety. He began to have bad problems with his health and I had to have him put to sleep few weeks ago. He was a lap cat, still had the kitten in him at 18 years; he is missed very much. Maybe one day you can own a cat, but it can be a problem if you travel. Finding someone to care for them when you are away can be challenging. Also, at least in the USA, veterinary care is extremely expensive. As always, thanks for sharing your travel adventures in your beloved country. Safe journeys.
