Lived here 11 years (near Brown and then downtown) and it's very enjoyable to see my adopted city through fresh eyes now and again. I love to have folks visit, to be reminded how lovely it is. A great little city that punches way above its weight class.

H.P. Lovecraft: "I am Providence." I'm not really a fan of "weird tales" and supernatural fiction, but HPL is Providence's most famous writer. And if you want to see Providence described in fiction, especially downtown and the east side, he's your boy. That quote is inscribed on his tombstone and he's buried in a cemetery on the upper east side, a couple of miles beyond Brown University.

It's funny that you said Providence reminds you of Europe. I had a customer come in at my job say Providence reminded her of Oxford. She was from the U.K. and she was making sure her kid was set up at Brown. Me and my boss thought she was ridiculous! I love my Providence, but I never thought we were all that. I have to admit, you put us in a SLIGHTLY better light in my eyes, though. It's so weird how people can see things so differently. I've never seen Providence as charming, but that wasn't the first time someone from out of town complimented us. I've always thought they were bonkers!

Been there years ago. Loved Providence especially the Brown University area and downtown. Still totally blown away by all those beautifully maintained colonial era homes and official-looking buildings. Would be challenging to ride a bike there-streets seem narrow, lots of hills, not seeing any bike lanes. Maybe I missed the bike infrastructure there. Still love that type of city where they cherish their historic places instead of knocking down their treasured buildings and building ugliness-post modern office buildings and parking structures. Thanks for taking us there! Probably way too many cars everywhere. Grrr…

Hi , I just spend 2 days in Providence doing a study at Brown. They flew me in from Florida. I walked to the state house as well. I was staying at the Hampton Inn. I walked all over I missed the Prospect park over looking the city and the restaurant you had dinner at but I found some really nice restaurants to have dinner at. I was not free all day to explore only from 4pm till 11pm . It was lot warmer in Sept 74 during the day and 67 at night. I live in Providence until I was 7 but they have changed the city a lot. They build a new train station. Did you visit the old station ? Union station they moved the tracks and station in 1986 the train track were elevated back then. A road ran under the station came out when the skating rink was in your video. Have you been to Worcester or Orlando? I live near Orlando.

I miss Rhode island. As you walked through the city you literally walked past 3 centuries of architecture. Oh, the yellow building you called old Europe looking, its the fleur de lys studio. It is not a residential building. Its been an art studio since the 1800s. RISD is not far from there. People underestimate how beautiful and historic the city is. Also the food and people are the essence of province. Compared to big cities in other parts 9f the country, its pretty safe. And even growing up there in the 70s, btw not as nice as it 8s now, it still was a great city.
