Lived here 11 years (near Brown and then downtown) and it's very enjoyable to see my adopted city through fresh eyes now and again. I love to have folks visit, to be reminded how lovely it is. A great little city that punches way above its weight class.

From someone who lived in Providence for decades and got to know it thoroughly, I think your mini-tour of the old city, founded in 1636, was excellent, very appreciative. I' m glad you enjoyed it. Come again, because there is more to see. Your choices of restaurants and lodging also were excellent.

H.P. Lovecraft: "I am Providence." I'm not really a fan of "weird tales" and supernatural fiction, but HPL is Providence's most famous writer. And if you want to see Providence described in fiction, especially downtown and the east side, he's your boy. That quote is inscribed on his tombstone and he's buried in a cemetery on the upper east side, a couple of miles beyond Brown University.

It's funny that you said Providence reminds you of Europe. I had a customer come in at my job say Providence reminded her of Oxford. She was from the U.K. and she was making sure her kid was set up at Brown. Me and my boss thought she was ridiculous! I love my Providence, but I never thought we were all that. I have to admit, you put us in a SLIGHTLY better light in my eyes, though. It's so weird how people can see things so differently. I've never seen Providence as charming, but that wasn't the first time someone from out of town complimented us. I've always thought they were bonkers!

I really enjoyed Providence. Although I was just visiting and when everything seems new I can definitely be pretty enthusiastic. Still, I've been to a lot of places and for a city the size of Providence, I thought that it offered a lot and I'm eager to return and explore it some more.

Been there years ago. Loved Providence especially the Brown University area and downtown. Still totally blown away by all those beautifully maintained colonial era homes and official-looking buildings. Would be challenging to ride a bike there-streets seem narrow, lots of hills, not seeing any bike lanes. Maybe I missed the bike infrastructure there. Still love that type of city where they cherish their historic places instead of knocking down their treasured buildings and building ugliness-post modern office buildings and parking structures. Thanks for taking us there! Probably way too many cars everywhere. Grrr…

Thanks for your honest overview of a city too often overlooked. We tolerate the winters because the other three seasons have much to offer. Please come back for Waterfire, Providence Gay Pride, PPAC, Trinity Rep., RISDI Museum and as you learned some of the best restaurants anywhere. Hi , I just spend 2 days in Providence doing a study at Brown. They flew me in from Florida. I walked to the state house as well. I was staying at the Hampton Inn. I walked all over I missed the Prospect park over looking the city and the restaurant you had dinner at but I found some really nice restaurants to have dinner at. I was not free all day to explore only from 4pm till 11pm . It was lot warmer in Sept 74 during the day and 67 at night. I live in Providence until I was 7 but they have changed the city a lot. They build a new train station. Did you visit the old station ? Union station they moved the tracks and station in 1986 the train track were elevated back then. A road ran under the station came out when the skating rink was in your video. Have you been to Worcester or Orlando? I live near Orlando.

@@Jamesnu I had a good time.. it.is a very cool city you can walk every where. I found a story and pictures of the train before 1986. From your hotel you could see the old station. I walked right by it . It looked like in the early 80s they changed the train tracks and roads . There is a picture of lot of building and road being removed. I like to back again and try the restaurant you ate dinner at. Where are you from

I miss Rhode island. As you walked through the city you literally walked past 3 centuries of architecture. Oh, the yellow building you called old Europe looking, its the fleur de lys studio. It is not a residential building. Its been an art studio since the 1800s. RISD is not far from there. People underestimate how beautiful and historic the city is. Also the food and people are the essence of province. Compared to big cities in other parts 9f the country, its pretty safe. And even growing up there in the 70s, btw not as nice as it 8s now, it still was a great city.

@@Jamesnu It's weird I've lived here forever and only been to the Barnes&Noble that use to exist on the ground floor there once. That entrance reminded me so much of Home Alone 2! Gonna watch your second video and see more of your adventures!

RU kidding. You are in RI and you eat that. If you didn't eat the seafood Italian food pizza you wanted the trip.

Dude I was born and raised there. I know what it’s like in the winter. The state shuts down. Of course there are sites to look at. Places to eat. But if someone goes there in the winter to visit. To see what RI is all about. They will not see it. It’s a magnificent state. Some of the best sites and food in the country. It’s like going to New Hampshire and Vermont to see the foliage is the dead of winter. There’s nothing to see.

Agreed! I'm a Smithfield, North Providence, Cumberland type of guy. I also like Warwick and West Warwick for what it offers without big city life. Tiverton is also a solid mention!
