A plaque, at reading level, shows the respect for men & women of the War... In my opinion. Nothing glitzy, just quiet, honorable respect. 👍👍 Briggs

Yes, it's a sign of small town pragmatism. I've seen small town parks that have a big damn rock. Instead of incurring the effort and expense of removing it, they put a plaque on it "Dedicated to the pioneering spirit . . ," made a respectful callback to the past, and went about their business.

Millie the dog is to promote bronze sculpture. Check out Wood village when you go to Troutdale, Oregon. It's one exit from Troutdale along the river. Go to Halsey St and you'll find Old Town. Lots of shops. Ask a local where the bronze museum is. It's on the left just as you pass the overhead arch. Georgia Gerber, creator of Millie, is one of the artists. There are many other bronze statues downtown Portland. During the riots last year you may have seen the destruction of the Elk statue. It's back now😁

Portland native here who grew up in Milwaukie Oregon and now reside in nearby Wahougal. Downtown Camas reminds me of downtown Milwaukie (both are located along a river and have a small town feel). The paper mill in town (2:02 mark on your drive in) is what imo kept the area population in check (I remeber the east wind out of the Columbia River would blow the stench of the paper mill into NE/SE Portland in the winter time). Once the mill all but shut down, the new construction up on the bluff just west of Camas really took off! I was fortunate to buy five acres in Washougal before the real estate prices shot up. Love being minutes away from the woods, yet still close enough to a metro area for goods/services. Looks like you just missed Camas Days. It took place the same weekend as the Washougal Motorcross Nationals event.

My husband and I moved to Camas (Ferm Prairie) a year ago. Just watched the sunset tonight from our deck, watching the trees sway in the light breeze. We just adore our small 1 acre home in the country. We absolutely love Camas! Just spent a Friday evening enjoying Camas days, while we served beer in the beer garden to raise funds for charity. Quaint downtown, lots of parks, trails, etc. I think it is one of the best towns in America. But if Camas keeps growing it will definitely loose it appeal.

I have a suggestion for another small town. Endicott, WA. My uncle and aunt are the pastor for the local church there. The story of how they ended up there is fascinating to me. They're part of a collective of pastors, who the collective business entity (of a sorts), pays for them to be in this small town and run the only church for this area. Less than 500 people live in the area, and the closest basic grocery store is 45 minutes away. I did the drive from Portland one year. Took about 5 hours. Lovely scenery along the way.

@@capedbeachcomber2109 how so? Just wondering because good friends bought a place there in 2018. They love it. I was out there a few times while living in Pt. Orchard. I didn't really care for Pt. Angeles, however.

Cool! Camas reminds me of Brattleboro, VT! Or a lot of small towns in NH.

Grew up in Troutdale! We love Camas too, though both have gotten very expensive this past year

This looks like a pretty nice place. I could see living there. If you could, please include the elevation above sea level of the towns you feature. A chart with average temperatures throughout the year would be helpful, as well. Thanks for the tour.

Camas downtown elevation is 85’ but there’s a huge range here. My house is at 1272’ and is still in Camas. We have a LOT of mountains so even homes in the downtown area are at 500’ and above.

I grew up in Camas next to Lacamas Lake. It’s a fantastic place to live. Hoping to move back to the area soon!

A few years ago, we visited some friends who escaped the Bay Area and moved a few miles north of Vancouver. The rural vibe is never far away, and Portland seems like it's on another planet. I was pleasantly surprised. And I agree, it's gorgeous, and the Columbia River Gorge is absolutely stunning.

My grandmother still lives up on the hill. I have some great memories of the place. Just be warned, somedays the wind will carry the smells from the paper mill straight to you.
