Love this video. Cold plunges have healed me inside and out in previous years. I live in a hot climate so it’s not always accessible but such a powerful experience

I bought an outdoor plunge pool from Amazon in March for £45 and I have dipped for 5 mins just about everyday since then. This mornings temp was 6.1 degree C. Been in the pool has been the closest I've been to meditation and I look forward to dipping everyday. I use it to connect with my spirituality and I talk to the gods. This is one of the best things I have ever done.

Hey Jacod, how's it going? Cold plunging, after you get use to it, I feel is very good and not just for your physical health but also your mental health. I feel that once you're able to be in the water and also stay calm, you feel something spiritual from it. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not sure this is for me. I can't handle being in the deep freeze at work for a few minutes (in thermals). I have heard that professional sports people take ice baths after competing to repair their muscles. So there is definite benefits to it. Love your channel

It depends on the context of your health and why you're doing it. There is a misunderstand of hormesis and people takes it too far. It makes sense to cool down your system in an icebath after a grueling 2 hours Formula 1 race. If you feel good from doing it once a while, it may be okay but more stress does not equate to healthier. You have to listen to your body. From the bioenergetic perspective, putting on unnecessary stress is very unhealthy as it damages your energy metabolism. Stressors such as ice bath, wimhoff breathing, excess bouncing (aka long distance running), and fasting (or excess intermittent fasting) are stressful as too much leads to increase in release of stress hormones, particularly cortisol. The stress hormones give signal that put the body in more of a survival state. Some cortisol effects are upregulation of gluconeogenesis (breakdown of body tissues to turn into glucose), and switches the body more toward fat oxidation and down regulate glucose oxidation (using fat as primary fuel and but less glucose as fuel), and increasing insulin resistance. In chronic state of cortisol upregulation, the body relies much more on gluconeogenesis, this is the metabolic state of those with diabetes as they can't efficiently burn glucose for energy and have insulin resistance which causes lipogenesis (fat storage). For people with autoimmune diseases, they are prescribed glucocorticoid drugs, short term they may feel good, but it is very damaging to the overall body over the long term. If your feel good and are not stressed, do it and see how you feel, but don't do it if you feel more stressed from it. Especially for most people who are already dealing with constant low grade stressors from living in 9-5 urban environment, more stress add onto the system will just be a net negative toward metabolic health.

Until a week and a half ago (so around the same time this video came out) I thought I'd never be able to take a cold bath. But then the sun was shining, it was a glorious Sunday in late October, and we decided to go to the beach and have a quick dip, if we can get ourselves to do it. I am super sensitive to the cold, so I wrapped myself in more layers than I thought I would need, managed to march into the sea roughly up to my belly button, took a quick dunk and got out. I was sooooooo happy, felt really relaxed and energised into the next day too, it was wonderful! The water was about 14 degrees so not freezing, and I would never ever do this close to my period, but I'll be doing it again if given the chance :D

I'm absolutely going to try this! I suffer from gastroparesis as a result of damage to my vagus nerve and I'll try anything that might help ease daily discomfort. Thank you for this, very interesting!

For me it just stresses my muscles 😶🌫️ During my winter hike to the waterfall, I go waist deep and then my body is like...... what are you doing 😅

If I have recommendation, it may seem hard but relaxin and giving yourself to the cold is the way to go. Our bodies reaction is to panic and tense up, if we "rewire" our reaction we can get some powerful benefits from the cold and our bodies response to it. But ultimately not everything is for everyone. I know many friends who would never do it 😂
