Worked at GAFBase married a GI 1969 that was station there.. Lots and Lots of babies born in that hospital. It was a livey base at the time.

I was stationed there from 5-70 thru 8-71 there i trained on F 4 E to get OJT and skill level 5 then off to Da Nang Vietnam to do what we were training for Operation Linebacker II \ 12-72 helped end the war

I was stationed there from 86-90, Picture all of the housing and the golf course with beautiful green grass and trees. The second set of housing you explored was the same as where I lived on base for two years with my wife as an E4. Prior to that I lived in AV for a year and Adelanto for a year. The hospital was fairly new and state of the art. I had a broken collar bone fixed after a dirt bike accident off base, and downstairs was the dental clinic where we were checked up once a year. The "lodging" near the end were the dorms where single Airmen lived, and they were building some of those in 1986 so they're still not that old. Good video!

Dude that is cool. I grew up in Apple Valley and we moved to Lemoore in 1992 before the base closure. My father was the NEFFE Union President on the base up until we had to move. I bet you had likely heard of him or even met him. Him and I have the same first name. Your last name sounds familiar believe it or not.

I was an E-5 in the hospital ED from 82 to 87, so I probs helped set your collarbone.

I was stationed there from late 1966 to Dec. 1969! It had some problems from the jet fuel burn pits that created problems on and around the base! Some of the major airlines in our country store airplanes that are not in use there now!

This came across my KZbin feed, so I checked it out. It is very similar to a many other videos on exploring this base. I have to wonder though, did you not do any research whatsoever? I mean, you can get a map on the internet to see what the buildings use to be.

I retired there in 1988 as NCOIC of the 37th TFW Runway Operations Monitor program. That was a program where they decided to put airmen in the little control towers at the ends of the runways to tell the college graduated "Put the gear down, dummy". They wanted the officers to have the time to get back in the books. From what I heard they decided later to go back to having the officers sit out there because the enlisted couldn't have cared less. I stayed in Victorville and Apple Valley until 2017 when I got tired of the idiot politicians in Sacramento ruining the state and move back to Abilene where I had come from. The office I worked out of was torn down.

I lived at George twice in the 70s living on Alaska Cir and Hawaii Ct just inside the main gate on the right. Was the first house you entered on Alaska Cir or Hawaii Ct? That was exactly as I remember those duplexes. Interesting stroll down memory lane. Thanks

Just goes to show you how wasteful the government is with our tax dollars. No effort made to dispose of the property. We have a housing area in my hometown that was actually renovated and units sold as residential homes. It’s been in existence for over 30 years, maybe 40. Very successful.

Why pay extra for removing stuff? Take the important stuff when you leave and walk away. Sell it as it is eventually or give it to local governments.. Contamination and all. The airfield is still in use as a distribution hub for Southern California. Huge, very successful operation. That seems a wise reuse and at no further cost to the federal taxpayer.

Trespassing is always fun and so is breaking out all windows you find. No respect for the past at all. While these videos may be civil, most other visitors were not as nice. Sad.

It’s honestly just wide open, there was zero security. Keep in mind, there are no trespassing signs, so you could get in trouble still. Technically.

The housings were pretty cookie cutter so it got boring quick since everything was the same but the complexes and the big ass theater made it very much worth it. Went just about sundown to night time

@@LaceyFamilyFarm the front doors were piled up from a hill of concrete and dirt, you’d have to crouch to get into it pretty cool. I was hesitant on if we’re able to go inside but came back 5 mins after and said yk what why not try, didn’t look completely closed off. Would advise to wear a mask in there tho

Homeless wouldn’t mind about the paint… it’s out of the elements. I’ll remember this if I become homeless. They should relocate some from downtown to there.
