I lived in one of the apartments on the top floor of one of the Psychiatric wards. My mother and father were doctors there. My mother became one of the medical directors there. We lived in 2 other house in the center. The doctors had to live either in the center or close by as they were on call. They had a baseball field, auditorium, bowling alley, and swimming pool in the rec center on state grounds. There was even a laundry building and green houses. The main Administration was a wonder. Very tranquil park at the main gate entrance. I’ll show this video to my mom. She would appreciate it.

Hi just saw your entire video! Wanted to write that my Oma (grandma) was Otti and she ran Otti’s Attic there at the state hospital. She worked at the state hospital for years as an attendant but after she retired she ran the thrift store for patients but it was also open to the public too. It’s sad to see that a lot of stuff was left behind like that. It was actually a beautiful campus at one time. Thank you for posting!

I remember Otti’s Attic! Great thrift store and Otti Brewer ran the place!

I worked for NY State Social Services a long time ago. We had lots of these facilities. About 5% of our population was in these facilities. Kids were taken from their families in elementary school and made wards of the state.

mental health systems have a long history of a abuse and are abusive to this day and don't get to root of mental health problems caused by trauma, bad diet, undiagnosed physical health conditions and more. just mask it with drugs and ect - often involuntarily and or the family coerces the person into it. psychiatric diagnosis is bogus - based on checklists of symptoms and the disorders are just made up to begin with.

These were self contained massive cities with underground bunkers and passages. They had their own power and steam plants. I had to clear out the old records and what I saw caused me to have panic attacks and I had a nervous breakdown. The level of abuse, the photos they took and the things that were written in the files, because no one outside the facility ever saw them. They were hell on Earth I had a call one night at 12:30 am, a " Sentinel Event " This was the code for someone escaping. It wasn't they were worried the person was a threat to the public. They were worried that someone might learn what was happening in these sites. We demolished several of the sites in the Capital District area and the Saratoga/ Lake George area. Basically in Kindergarten you got pigeon holed. Depending on who your parents were, you were given different classes. If you were poor and you had ADHD, or were slow, or had other mental health issues, they evaluated you in First grade and Second Grade and if you were still disruptive in third grade they sent the ambulance and police and took you to the hospital. You didn't have any choice. They just took you. I see schools today and literally, 99% of the schools would be committed back in 1976. Seeing how much difference between school in 1976 and 1996, it doesn't seem possible.

absolutely pisses me off with how people will treat abandoned buildings. Most of the abandoned buildings that you guys explore, tend to always still be intact and you are able to understand what you're exploring. Nonetheless, adore the content you guys put out, Also putting in the information about the places since yall don't always put out the addresses is really cool!!!

many of the people who worked in this place were convicted of abuse and such federal Crimes and many of these people have been growing older filing for retirment and there is no laws stoppingthem from collecting state retirement even though they were tried and convicted of abuse at this hospital there is a lot of info on line much of this type of news about it is from 2017 some worked there over 20 years before state caught on to the abuse at the hospital
@RoamingRamble3 ай бұрын
these asylum's were all shut down finally in the 90s parts of some remained open though they couldn't close slowly as so many in these places were arrest for abuse to people in these hospitals there was no where to hire staff from with out hurting the countries health care system . the thing is medicine changed many of the reason these people were in these asylum's can be treated with modern medicine what has failed is the health care systems where they did not increase the mental health care you could get for mental health and so many go untreated and not only that many even go undiagnosed and so it has grown in to the problems we see today including the opiod crisis many of these addicts on the streets in cities are self medicating because of a lack of health care the system turns then away .
@RoamingRamble3 ай бұрын
the new synthetic street drug tranq and such keeps them in continuous need and so they live near the source in open air drug trade they get free samples each day then they go out and hustle and sell what they steel for more of the drug ,the dealers know they cant keep there income stream going unless they can keep addict's working to pay , getting off these drugs after a few years is not like the old days trying to get clean from this stuff kills no matter if they go to rehab they will live a life on another drug to avoid the pain of withdrawal
@RoamingRamble3 ай бұрын
there are cities now with so many addicts on the streets like Philadelphia that they are setting up larger parts of Prisons as secure Rehab centers where addicts can stay in assented living till they get completely well which can take a life time for many even this is dangerous because there tolerance to the drugs is lost if they fall back most OD and Die . so any rehab needs to be thought of for each as a place for life time of recovery ..

Still happening in hospitals where people can’t speak for themselves. There is one in NY being investigated now for abusing autistic kids. There is one in CT. It is sad. We need these facilities to help people but there needs to be oversight.

Tell me you don't live in NY without telling me you don't live in NY " we are in upstate NY, Middletown, NY" as someone whom lives close to Middletown, NY I can safely tell you that Middletown,NY is NOT upstate NY you have to go to Green County and above to be in upstate NY. Middletown,NY is considered part of the Southern tier of NY b/c of how close it is the city

They end up being placed in prisons or on the streets . That's where most mental people end up. I think that why there so much many homeless . They have mental issues and no body to look after them and they can be hard to deal with. But don't need to be abused .
@richarddouglas17123 ай бұрын
