Freaktography Travel Vlog: Four Days in Abandoned Saskatchewan
This trip to Saskatchewan in May of 2023 took me several months to plan and plot out and 4 days to complete.
In total, I travelled 2,813 km and visited 41 individual abandoned locations of interest.
I slept in my car all three nights and on night four I rented a hotel room by the Saskatoon airport.
On Night 1, I stayed on the grounds of an abandoned church
On night 2, I slept in my car in a Walmart parking lot in Regina
On night 3, I slept in my car in a Walmart parking lot in Swift Current.
This video features 32 of the 41 locations that I visited on this trip, not all of the locations were video-worthy but I did stop to take many photos at many places along the way.
Thanks for watching, I hope you like this travel vlog video!
You can see the photos I have posted so far on my website with lots more to come!

Outstanding video! I don't comment a lot, but I always watch and 👍! A lot of history going on in this video. All of these locations are amazing. The Witch's House would make a great puzzle. The Butte was my favorite. My Uncle had an Austin, so I'm fairly certain that's what the car was. I only remembered it because of a poem he always quoted. "There was a man from Boston, He went and bought an Austin. He traded his ass (jackass) for a gallon of gas and his balls fell down and he lost them"! Never quite understood it, but to a 10 year old, if jackass and balls were in it, it was funny. That was 51 years ago. Appreciate you taking us on your journey. Have a great day 👍

37:51, I’ve seen this house before on YT, a local Saskatchewan explore did some very nice night shots at this particular location. When his video was made a year or so ago, it was safe, not as bad as it looks. No trip to Saskatchewan especially for a Canadian wouldn’t be complete without visiting Rouleau, were Corner Gas was filmed.

The beauty of the prairies still shines despite the loss of structures almost every day. Saskatchewan had a very high population base in the early decades of the 20th century with a farmstead on nearly every quarter section of land in the good land regions then rural depopulation really got going in the later 1940s and that continues... Back in the mid 1960s through the 1970s railway stations started to disappear then around 1970 it was the grain elevators that faced accelerated demolition especially with the railway abandonment blitz in the later 1970s and onward, Plus elevator mergers and consolidations. Small village and hamlet stores and service stations began to close with the rural depopulation that continues to happen. The rural architectural heritage is more sporadic now but your videos shows there is still a lot to be found. I don't have a clue how many rural churches remain or abandoned farm houses?? I do know that there is now just under 400 wood crib grain elevators which remain on their original sites but weather is slowly destroying the abandoned elevators such as that January snow storm of 2021 which did a number on the cupola at the Bents elevator and also knocked the cupola off the Neidpath elevator. Dummer hamlet even had a hotel in the 1940s, a neat colour photo in a children's book on Canada shows a line up of grain trucks waiting to deliver grain to the elevator and on the right side of the photo shows a house that was sitting derelict until recent years. Every now and then I hear about a ghostly hamlet being leveled by the RM burning or bulldozing down the abandoned buildings, this happened at Hampton, Eskbank and Govenlock to name a few. Places like Robsart and Bateman still have several abandoned structures which allows you to connect with the past but a field with some remnant debris makes it hard to imagine what a place was like. You can easily assume that nine out of ten railway sidings was a small community at one time with at least one store. Mitchelton is a former hamlet, not much there today and like many places is easily missed. Th first time I saw Peterson hamlet there was an old store but someone turned it into a dwelling, the elevator remains to stand guard for now. I enjoy seeing the prairies, that special light is magical but it hurts to know how much has disappeared over the last seven decades.[]

I've been to Saskatchewan with a guy friend, we went to Humboldt. If youve ever seen a huge property a long the highway that literally looks like a junkyard with a house on the right, with 3 big silver grain bins on the property at the back, thats were we stayed for a bit, the older guy and his wife lives there, he liked to fix old cars and stuff up i guess, but seriously i think he had a big hoarding problem now that i think of it🤔, inside it was no better , with junk everywhere on the tables. idk how his wife put up with that and they owned 3 big dogs. Anyways, took a lot of pictures, i wish i wasnt stupid and just deleted all of them.. i mean, it was the guy, i dont know him anymore, and i didnt think before i deleted, and i didnt want the memory of that time when i was with him. My parents were disappointed i just deleted all those great pics. I was sort of disappointed in myself too😐, i took probably over 100, its not like the guy was in any if the tbh , i just took a lot of landscape pictures. I highly doubt i will ever get an opportunity like that ever again to travel where we went, we travalled along the trans canada highway which i think goes thru all the provinces pretty much... Btw, travelling by car sounds good, and actually being able to sleep in a proper bed🤔. For the 2 month i was with the guy we slept in a cramped cabin the the back of his truck.
