𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐤𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐚 was born in Uganda, Africa, and first encountered Buddhism while studying and living in India in 1990. After his ordination by the late Most Venerable U Silananda at the Tathagata Meditation Center in San Jose, California in 2002, he spent eight years under the guidance of Bhante Henepola Gunaratana at the Bhavana Society in West Virginia.
Founder and Abbot of the Uganda Buddhist Center and the Buddhist Peace Primary School, he teaches Buddhism and Inter-religious Engagement at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Bhante was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Buddhist Studies by MCU, Thailand.
Since 2005, Bhante has been teaching mindfulness meditation in Singapore, Australia, Africa, the U.S., and worldwide. He is particularly renowned for his work of bringing Buddhism to Uganda, Africa, and his book, Planting Dhamma Seeds: The Emergence of Buddhism in Africa.
