Franz Kafka's dark life gave birth to a literary mind that conveys a philosophy with two faces. On the one hand, Kafka never shakes the self-hatred and fear of authority he developed in childhood, but on the other hand Kafka presents tales that show us the cracks in the story of life, letting in a hint of light to guide our way. The dark but illuminating nature of his work has even been given the name Kafkaesque in an attempt to capture his unique style.
In this video we explore two compelling short stories - Before the Law and The Metamorphosis. By analyzing the Metamorphosis, we show what Kafka can teach us about self-hatred, family, money, and society in general. When looking at Before the Law we see how institutions and social circles in our society keep us boxed out even though they pretend they are made for all of us.
Franz Kafka produce many works such as The Trial, The Castle, and Amerika, among many short stories. reading his stories are a good way of entering into the world of literature while also diving deep into philosophical questions about the meaning of life.

Extended periods of self hatred have gotten me far enough that I can appreciate my progress with a perspective shift. If you can never shift your perspective I can see how self hatred could destroy someone over time. It can be a very powerful tool. Kafkas persistence in trying to hopelessly please his family seems like his biggest weakness.

Great questions you asked there. We must always question things that are being presented to us if they really align with what we want and where we are heading in life. People in higher positions don't want their authority to be questioned for it breaks their illusions of superiority and power.

Those questions hit me very hard at the end. I think my kafkaesque fear is that I will regret choosing certain paths over others, consequently laying in my deathbed wishing I tried more. In this modern age it only eases the ability to compare lifestyles and choices via media. It’s hard not to view your life as product of choices and subgroups to be a part of. Finding yourself sometimes feels like choosing a certain set of characteristic parameters that are already predetermined by tropes. Love this video, man. Keep on doing this. Loyal fan over here

💯 let my family go - individualizing from your family is one of the major life arcs, its not easy because we are meant to be a part of a tribe but it is critical to reaching full adulthood. Carl Jung has great insight to the process
