Victor is the best. He makes a good point that you paid for it all. Some bassists only use half of their instruments potential. He uses 100%

I really laughed when he said, "now you're starting to understand my whole career... I've been tricking you..." 🤣. Just so everyone knows, Mr. Wooten knows exactly what he's doing, all of the time. And he pretty much knows absolutely everything. Don't be fooled. But very encouraging words, really. I love it

"When you do that, explore every note, people will think you know more than you really do." So when I was younger I played with older musicians, and I was scared because I didn't know shit I just had fun and people would say "woah dude you're sick." And I would smile and hope nobody noticed I was "faking it." I've been playing for 15 years and I still feel like I'm "faking it" and hearing Vic just say that lifted an immense burden on my mind and opened a new door for me. It dosen't really matter if its correct its more important that its fun and that it grooves. Thanks again Victor!!!!

I love Victor! He's unknowingly becoming my bass teacher lol. We grew up in music a similar way. I picked up instruments and played them until it sounded good. He made me want to improve my knowledge of music theory. He said something along the lines of, "Theory is like a tool box. It's in the trunk, not the passenger seat. If I need it I can grab it but, I'm driving this vehicle. I'm feeling the road as it twists, turns, rises, falls, etc." Flow with it and if you need some tools you know where they are. Brilliant and wise man indeed!

great stuff, basically, the ear has to be fooled, so go crazy but after a few notes go to the 1, maybe approach the one with a 3 or 5 first. keep the ear happy with the 1 3 5 during your improv.
