Some fun facts I learned about Tungsten in my prospecting and mine exploring days. Tung Sten is Swedish for heavy stone. Wolfram was a name given by German tin smelters because tin ore contaminated with tungsten caused the tin melt to be ruined by a froth they likened to the froth on the mouth of wolves devouring sheep. Apparently tungsten has a strong chemical affinity to tin. This solved a mystery going back to my High School Chemistry days wondering WHY tungsten has the chemical symbol W of all letters! What general area is this mine in? These are amazingly extensive workings. They put a lot of faith in the strength of the host rock given the amount removed yet with so little bracing.
