Eldoret station holds lots of childhood memories for me.Down the memory lane ................ I remember, in particular, that when our friends used to travel by train en route to Uganda or Nairobi, my parents would go to meet them at Eldoret Station. My mum would cook for them and give them packed homemade lunch/dinner for their journey.

Im glad you enjoyed! This historic train station does hold a special memory for many settlers of Eldoret. There are talks of renovating it and starting up passenger lines once again! Waiting for that to happen eagerly and I can vlog that too! Thank you for watching

Junior smart Tanvir Sing I came across your video recently. I am from Eldoret. My dad was head clerk through out his life over sixty five years service. I passed my Kenya Preliminary in 1953 at Ushin Gishu Primary school Eldoret followed by senior Cambridge in 1957. We use to live in a bungalow next to Railway landi. I was a keen footballer and cricketer.

Great Memories when we lived there. Anyone have any idea how long the train journey from Mombasa to Eldoret, by train, would have taken in 1950's about. Thanks in advance Rohit

The old meter gauge rail should be rehabilitated and not go to waste. It is a pivotal asset. Rails are expensive to build and dificult to build thus we should ensure the lunatic express keeps going strong to transport goods and people at cheaper cost.
@TanvirTheExplorer3 жыл бұрын
They are building the older railway. If you watch my new video you shall see it there. Hope you enjoyed the video 😄
@daviddavis79593 жыл бұрын
Ok. Thanks. Question? My understanding is that the OMGL will be rehabed from naivasha to Malaba. The SGR terminates at Naivasha. So will goods and people have to discharge at Naivasha and then board another train to go beyond naivasha or will it be a seamless connection. basically can the SGR use the MGR (the one being rehabilitated).
@TanvirTheExplorer3 жыл бұрын
They shall have to change over trains at Naivasha. The tracks cannot be shared. There has to be a transition from the MGR train to SGR and vice versa
@daviddavis79593 жыл бұрын
@@TanvirTheExplorer Thanks. What about the lunatic express I guess it will use the same rehabed line as it gets to naivasha?

wow, KR can't even be bothered with just a lick of paint at their stations. i hear they are improving some on the nanyuki line though

The Nyanuki line is up and running and the other lines are in progress of a major revamp. By September you should be able to take a train from Malaba to Mombasa... I was referring specifically to station improvements, but yeah, its exciting the lines back operational. last time I took the metre gauge was a 17 hour journey from mombasa to Nairobi overnight. 2nd class was quite comfortable, we played drinking games all night in our little cabin. the new SGR is efficient but the magics gone
@TanvirTheExplorer3 жыл бұрын
@@TheTororist I totally agree with you. Im sure the stations will be looked into as well. The SGR is fast but the MGR is really historic and a thrill to ride! I do hope it is restored to its former class and glory. I am impressed with the speed they are moving at and if this momentum continues its not long before the stations are done up as well.

It makes me sad to see that station in that horrible state I remember we visited that station back around 1975 or 1976 and the place was so immaculate I wonder who's in charge of the place we need to be serious if we expect kenya to be an industrial giant equally that locomotive is in a sad state it needs a wash and a fresh coat of paint again I doubt kenyans will be able to maintain the sgr once the Chinese are gone
@TanvirTheExplorer3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. There is a makeover being done on the railways and hopefully the stations and locomotives shall be done up as well.
