Years ago, it was a vibrant ethnic Hungarian neighborhood with locations such as Al's Lounge (best chicken paprikas in town), Joey's Stables (best Hungarian Gulash and live gypsy band), Szabo's Market, The Hungarian Club (best chicken soup and apricot struddle), St. Stephens Church, Red Pelican Mustard plant, and a nice small "downtown" area on Jefferson at West End St that had a small cafe, hardware store, bike shop and so on. But like so many ethnic neighborhoods throughout Detroit, it succumbed to flight and blight. What a shame. Time marches on.

@MichiganMade9 күн бұрын
Only because there's never any police in this area and they usually wouldn't give you a ticket for that anyhow but in the 90s growing up there people would blow the red lights due to the fear of being a victim of crime because Delray was crazy in the late 80s through early 2000s

I hope the new bridge will help this area, economically. Wonder how this area will look in a 10+ years from now.
@MichiganMade10 күн бұрын
I imagine they'll add some parks maybe a small area of new housing next to the pocket that already exists and maybe build some businesses on Jefferson right in that area... I'm just happy they didn't totally destroy the entire area for the new bridge even though the majority is gone they're still a little left for Nostalgia and those people who've been living there their whole lives

Marathon destroyed Delray... and the City of Detroit allowed it. Detroit got nothing in return, not even cheaper gas
@MichiganMade8 күн бұрын
As well as Oakwood Heights AKA Bayside that's the real neighborhood they destroyed they tore that whole area down promised people good buyouts and shafted a ton of people Delray was a victim also but once they finalize the plans for the bridge and demolished the majority of the neighborhood for a custom Center that was the end of Delray thank God this little section in my video still survives to this day or there would be nothing left.. marathons also doing and did the same to the Boynton neighborhood

Yeah Great Job Rick Snyder. I thought his Emergency Manager bill was supposed to take care of these neighborhoods. That guy was an absolute and epic failure of a Governor. Worst Governor in the history of humanity.
@MichiganMade7 күн бұрын
It has a lot more to do with the scamming corrupt sneaky City mayor's and employees throughout the years who pocketed a bunch of money instead of focusing on and investing money into areas that really needed it
@strykerthepsycher84127 күн бұрын
@@MichiganMade Yeah I'm aware at how bad the city has been run for many years. But that idiot of a Governor did absolutely nothing in his power grab when he put emergency managers in charge. Not one positive thing came out of that in any of the cities. Take Flint for an example.
