Once again, fascinating insights. Buddenbrooks was my entry novel to the works of Thomas Mann. The level of decline of each of the family members is devastating to read about.

Thank you for the comment. Such a nice coincidence, - Buddenbrooks was the first book I read from the 'adults section' of our local public library, when I was about 15 years old. It was a real turning point or milestone in my development as a reader, the first 'real novel' I read, - opened up a new world for me. Best regards, - David
