Dabble and Travel, The fortress and the town are called Tighina and not Bender. It was one of the border fortresses of medieval Moldova. Although it belonged to Moldova, it was taken over by the Turks in the early 18th century, following the Russo-Turkish wars. It was then named Bender and was fortified by the Turks according to architectural plans from Western Europe. In order to forget the fact that the fortress belonged to Moldova, the Russians took the Turkish name of the fortress - Bender. Today, the Tighina fortress was renovated by the Republic of Moldova with the financial support of the EU.

Russians like the name Bender in opposite contradiction with the name Tighina because it’a romanian. Nothing new here and the fortress probably built in 12th century by genoese later remodelled by ottomans served as a great post for Moldavian Principality up until got on a wrong hands of USSR and ultimately on this self proclaimed state or whatever they claim to be. Thank you for showing the fortress!

Yet another interesting adventure. Was there a special check when you passed from Tiraspol to Bender because it's on the other side of the river and so technically within Moldova? I read something about that the other day.
@vposviatenko3 жыл бұрын
Bender is controlled by the so-called Pridnestrovian Moldavian Rebublic and Russian "peacekeepers", even though it is on the other side of the river. The town and area around it is the only place on the right bank of the river controlled by the unrecognised republic. So there are no checks when you cross the river. The check happens right before entering Bender.

Transnistria does not exist !! is Moldova !!

Its not "Na zdorovie", but "Za zdorovie". You say "Na zdorovie" as "you're welcome" when somebody thanks you. Saying "Na zdorovie" during a drink implies you think alcohol is healthy for you which makes no sense, while "Za zdorovie" means you're *wishing* for good health and to stay healthy, a toast for great health.
