I am from Moldova. Chisinau is not ugly. This is our history, pretty or not, this is it. Every piece of architecture made us who we are today. Also sunshine makes everything look better. And we have plenty of that. By the way, I live in the UK. It's grim up North as they say...

The circus thing is actually like this: the building shown is the circus we used to go to and watch shows, but this building was closed because it started to break down and it was no longer safe for people to stay there, because the attic could fall at any moment. However, another smaller building has opened, near this big one, where you can still see some circus shows. P. S. I really like your videos, i feel really proud of my country watching them. Chisinau was a beautiful city with amazing medieval charm. Unfortunately after this part of historic Moldova was captured by the soviets, there was heavy forced russification with the goal to remove the romanian culture and turn into a sad russian city like in Siberia. This meant transfer of population as well as the destruction on many historical building replaced by grey soviet apartment buildings. The result is that today indeed Chisinau is not the most beautiful city but hopefully it will improve little by little as the country moves closer to it's rightful place in Europe alongside Romania.

It won't happen till corruption is solved .but it's much better than Romania because although Romania has been part of Europe for many years, still it's the most corrupted country in whole Europe I mean even the force of union couldn't help

@@faradfarad9943 Corruption will not be solved neither in Moldova nor Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia etc. The issue in Moldova is to build up the state institutions and to remove the oligarchs (mostly KGB agents of course) that are holding the country hostage.

In my opinion, the city looks quite solid without any predispositions to be declared the ugliest city in Europe. For me, there are several capitals in Europe that are much uglier than Chisinau, but I do not want to say their names so that no one would be offended and provoked. Moldova needs to reunite with Romania, to become modern and developed, as soon as possible. Unfortunately, a few years ago, when an opinion poll was conducted, in which Moldovans were asked if they wanted to unite with Romania, 48% said YES and 52% answered NO and they didn't want to reunite with Romania. Too bad for them, they have to lose, not the Romanian people.

Brutalist was not a style invented or used exclusively by the soviet countries and the eastern block. I think it was invented right in UK in the 1950s and there are some brutalist apartment blocks in UK too, some of them were demolished meantime, and also there are many even in New York and maybe in many other places or non-communist countries but I dont now about them. Anyway, its an international style :D And the structures u r hunting in Chișinău are not necessarily brutalist, but purely soviet-commy buildings ;) Btw, the 1970s Gates of Chișinău look ok, I mean not so run down and behind that circus there are very new, modern and cute apartment blocks :)

Depends. Better be in the EU, so you can travel freely within the EU and have the same rules more or less. That means countries like Romania and Bulgaria are the cheapest to live in, quite a lot of people live with a quarter of that number (minimum wage 300 euro net in Romania). But for a bit more expensive and more sea side and warmer weather than Romania and Bulgaria would be Greece. Quite a few towns in Romania ranked in the tops in being safe in the world. Downside, dumb politicians and more bureaucracy. I'm quite fond of my city Brasov, it's safe, it's surrounded by mountains, it's calm and not that busy, but if I wanted warmer weather and sea view and had 1200 a month, probably Italy.

I've driven through North London a million times (I lived in NW London for 15 years, surrounded by celebs and lovely homes and restaurants) and trust me, London equals Chisinau in how ugly it is. Drive down Edgware Road in W. London, just up the street from Park Lane and Mayfair, it's all doner shops and women in metal masks and full-on black garbs from somewhere in Afghanistan. And when was the last time you were in some council estate in Islington, or drove through Great Yarmouth in Norfolk? That's as ugly and poor and destitute as anywhere.in Moldova without any of the excuses.
