Exploring The Peter Grant Mansion - The Largest Abandoned Mansion in Canada | $25,000,000 (4K VIDEO)
Where do I even start with this one? I can start by telling you that this was to be the largest mansion in all of Canada
Once completed it would be a monster-home that dwarfed everything else in the area, possibly the country. The massive mansion was supposed to come complete with a small golf course, an art gallery, office area, swimming pool with a waterfall, squash court, two elevators, a giant hot tub, a small gym, a boathouse and 43 acres of land.
See the whole photo gallery here:

My experience exploring this huge mansion was memorable, I drove approximately six hours to the location, arriving about two hours prior to sunset, which is why the video has so many great colours.
I focused my time on the first day on strictly shooting video, exploring and navigating the house. On day two I woke up with the sunrise and returned to capture my photographs and document as much as this mansion as I could.
On night one after my explore was complete I stayed to capture timelapse footage of the sun setting and the night creeping in, followed by a photo of the mansion, lit by a nearby street lamp and the bright stars over Lake Temiskaming

This appears to be a huge shell inside, with such a cold feeling with all the cement, not a family dwelling. With giant hallways it looks like a business complex to me. I’m surprised it just stands unfinished & decaying...such a waste. Should be sold or donated to an upstanding agency.

Place has a huge moisture problem that would cost a fortune to remedy. Way too much concrete built on top of the water, with the boat house. So they were going to try and fix the issue with gas fire places and that was another mistake, gas fires produced moisture too. Personally I think someone finally seen the mistakes and just abandoned the project.

Yeah there are estimated to be 3-5 times more empty, investor owned houses per homeless person in the US & Canada. That's per person not per family and many of those properties are huge like this one. Everyone should be mad that the system is setup to funnel wealth and resources to the 1%. Especially with modern technology, we are more than capable of giving everyone on Earth a comfortable, sustainable life. But capitalism is based on making profits for the wealthy not based on actually providing anything useful for everyone else. Just look at all the wealth created off of scams, junk products, and Wall Street gambling that is hurting people, not helping anyone but the wealthy. Socialism is the only way forward. Every worker should have share of ownership and democracy in their workplace. That's all it fundamentally means is giving people democratic control over the place where they spend the majority of their lives.

The location and aspect is amazing, the daytime views over the water and the night sky with virtually no light pollution. I like a lot of the internal stone and brick wall colours, I was waiting for the date to be mentioned because I thought a lot of the first fix inside already looked dated, the doors, woodwork and design ideas, construction stopped in 2007, nowadays it would additionally be fully cabled out for data, CCTV, a sound system, security system, ambient mood lighting. From the air the architecture looks very art-deco 1930s Moderne, the curves, lots of glazing and a smaller room on the flat roof. I'm sure eventually somebody will make this property work, , but will need a redesign inside, new ideas and a healthy budget.

I live just up the street from this. Its become a urban explorer destination in the last year due to these youtube videos. When this was being built it had a budget of 90 million. And employed about 100 people onsite from engineers to carpenters. Pete was planning on putting a casino on the large island just offshore, hence why there was a (office/retail) portion of the house. The house was essentially written off as a tax loss/buisness loss and Pete is still extremely wealthy. He has a 50$ mill home with a golf course and helipad just outside of town here. His money is made in farming and trucking now. The only thing i could see happening is one of the local mining companies buys it and makes it theyre new corporate headquarters.

What I always say, is the richest people on the planet are the ones who destroy mother earth's most precious materials to satisfy their own egos. This is a perfect example. The entire property is totally logged off to showcase this eyesore for miles around. I dug pretty deep and found this guy may have, like often really wealthy people do, put this project in a INC. and went bankrupt and defaulted on the loans and vendor bills and then later created a new entity and bought it back from the bank at a fraction of the original debt that was owed.

Great take Mr. anti rich crusader. It's a construction project, one which employed many "poor" people, and would have created many more jobs if put into operation. It uses the SAME materials that ANY construction project uses, including ones which house tons of "poor" people. It lost funding. That's not destruction. I suppose the endless amount of vandalism here escaped you. How about the guy who wrote "die gays"? Something tells me he's not rolling in dough, and neither are the countless other vandals. Just realize, by writing your ignorant comment, you put yourself on team "die gays" in more ways than one. By making it about type rather than behavior, you excuse and ignore a lot.

@@lyndamclean6786 Exactly. Its what a lot of construction people do. We had a mansion in our suburb where a guy owned a concrete company. Built a huge house with his "materials" and had his company even invent special concrete shingles he used on the house. He supposedly also had a few of his office people work there. The whole house and a big chunk of his mortgage was a write off. This house is the same thing. Breathtaking so beautiful, thank you for showing this beautiful structure, unbelievable how big it is, I would love to see it all finished the magnificent staircase alone, and the waterfall and pool even just the view of the water, words cannot even explain, hugs to you really makes you dream, what could have been, yes feel bad for the little houses, I'm sure that big also, but not a monster, what a shame that it's going to be probably demolished because of all the mold, think of all the money wasted,

This was not built to be house. The head office for Grant forest products was in Haileybury,. This building was to be the new head office for the company, with an art gallery ( Grant had an extensive collection of Canadian art) ..as well as a showcase for OSB products. Grant was looking at additional uses for OSB...ie boats.. Also included were Living quarters for Grant as well as personsal and business guests..and conference facilities. Grant also developed the only 18 hole golf course in the area.." Frog's Breath ". Rather than criticize this...it illustrates the amount of money Grant added to the local community. Grant Sr. Was a Northerner..and believed in northern economic development. whispersfromtheedgeoftherainforest.blogspot.com/2011/04/who-laments-for-haileybury-house.html?m=1

Theres a big house where I live . I remember back in 96 it was being completed at a top of a hill . The rooms had names on the walls(9 rooms if I recall correctly) Quite a house. I went 20 years later just to check it out . House was never completed .Had gates all around saying all trespassers will be prosecuted and there were cameras all around.Quite odd. Supposedly the city cited that the house was unsafe due to its location and the owner ended up killing himself. I suppose thats why it was gated since it was a liability.

wow how sad a mansion like this abandoned like that, so i prefer medium sized houses to not be abandoned. i'm brazilian i loved your fantastic channel and i already wrote on your channel too. a mansion like this cannot be abandoned at this level anything must have happened there, he studies the history of that place, he may have been murdered, or he may have a haunting index. couple separation, and nobody wanted the house can only be that issue 👍 Here in Brazil the man or woman stays with the house, more often it is the woman who stays with the house. very tasty hug very tight for you my beautiful fabulous and one more thing take great care of these abandoned places not the question of being abandoned or a terrible accident can happen. always let friends and family know where you are in case something happens, warning is the best protection of all. good morning, good afternoon and a great night be divine 🙏👍❤️😍🤗🥰😘😇😱🇧🇷🇺🇸

I take Sir Paul McCartneys approach. Paul is a billionaire and lives in a small modest home. He said he wants to be by his family and be able to speak to them without using an intercom or phone. I understand that completely. I recently moved from A1600 square foot home to a 3600 sqft home. I thought I needed more space. I hate it
