The boarded up building was the maternity unit where i was born and later generations of my family were also born.the original mahogany staircase is still there just inside the entrance.

Good video George, The tennis court was part of the hospital, many patients were there due to mental health issues and it was considered a social/physical activity for them, later on it was used for drug alcohol detox patients. The building you focused on had many uses at the same time (I'm talking late 90s early 00s) as I worked for the N.H.S. then, on the ground floor to the left was human recourses. The enter/exit turnstile gate built into the wall on Arundel Avenue was there for N.H.S. staff living in that are instead of going right round to the front entrance on Smithdown Road. That entrance was in the corner were the petrol station is now. I always wondered about that mound, so thanks for telling me! as I have lived off Smithdown Road since the early 1990s I remember the Old Sefton General now Asda. coming back to the building you dropped your Dad off, they used to do X-rays and Blood tests there.

Great to see this, I worked at Sefton General between 1991 and 1993. shown here is Arundel House which was previously ward 30 (maternity) the York Centre, also shown is one of the newer buildings used for Radiology as well as the Geriatric Day Hospital, next to the cemetary wall.

I was born in Sefton general, 1969. The Psych dept was round the back and the first drug detox unit opened there by Dr White, who was an amazing guy. Helped my sister many years back when she was suffering with her mental health.

My mother used to go there every 6 months to see the heart specialist, for a child it was big, dark & gloomy, I got dragged along when my dad took her.

That was good George, hope you get your equipment sorted 🤞🏻 It'll probably get converted into flats like everything else that gets left & boarded up ... Not sure about the seaweed snack, I'll stick to Ginsters & Walls 😊

Funny i also had to go for an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Ultrasound scan and the Nurse said i wasn't Pregnant either so all good. I seem to remember visiting my Dad in the ground floor wards in that building which at the time was a lot newer than the Old Sevvy General Hospital and the A &E department. Im wondering if the old Male Accommodation part was actually Bombed and rebuild at some point because those bricks look way too new to be the original Victorian Workhouse. 🤔 i could be totally wrong but i visited the A & E department and wards at various times in the 60s and 70s. I always remember the Hospital being very old with lots of Sandstone similar to the old Women's hospital.

Just been having a search for any info and found this little note about the only part of the Hospital that wasn't demolished according to National records Office they said "The buildings have now been demolished with only the Smithdown Minor Injury Unit for Children surviving on the site.

I remember York Place as the local phlebotomy unit. Your GP gave a blood test printout and you just turned up any time in the morning, got a ticket and waited your turn. No longer than 10-20 minutes. It was often standing room only. Those nurses ran a production line. They also knew their job, I never had a bruise. After all the COV1D nonsense the system has changed drastically. York Place has closed down. GP practices and clinics do the blood tests. You need to book a specific appointment slot online. It is at least a month away every time. GP's are still of the mind that a blood result will come back in a week. The nurse is allowed to keep you waiting over 30 minutes in an empty GP surgery while she is gassing with her colleagues at the desk. Finally she begrudgingly calls you in to do her job and then causes massive bruising. The clinic was a better experience even though I had to drive to get to it. But it was still at least a month away and an appointment with a 30 minute time slot. NHS is deliberately mis-managed and it is not a money problem.

Just a thought, maybe the female and male buildings were for trainee nurses and doctors? You know in the days when they knew how to do it?
