I agree. I never liked the KR2000. I just felt it was the wrong car for the movie. I think they should have used a trans am again. Replacing KITT with a different looking car was like replacing David with a different actor to play Michael. Also there was no need to for the over the top styling. I think a if they were dead set on not using a Pontiac they just should have gone with a stock Dodge Stealth body with a slightly modded front clip as they did with the original. Also bet Dodge and Mitsubishi would have seen a brief jump in sales that year.

Cool well-produced and informative. I was at Jays shop on a Sunday when he pulled the two Dodge Stealths into the shop and started cutting the ends off of them. I attended a dinner with Jay, his wife and the product guys from AMT who were doing the model kit. I arranged the use of the custom wheels on the TV cars. You’d think that the wheel company would’ve been bright enough to use that media use as a promotional effort, wouldn’t you? Nope. They even went to Universal and demanded the wheels back from the display car at the park! Idve wanted to use 17-inch rims, the 15s look like skate wheels but costs would’ve barred the purchase of new tires. Wood hinges on plywood? Why not??? That car looked like the Banshee show car, which Pontiac had offered, but DH would need one for each foot and the power train was ‘experimental’ and would’ve broken in about ten minutes under studio care. The end product resembled the Banshee to the point that GM filed a cease-and-desist order against future use.

Thanks for sharing this David Fryatt You're the 2nd person to mention the Mitsubishi GTO in the comments of this video, so I had to look it up on Wikipedia! "Manufactured in a three-door hatchback coupé body style in Nagoya, Japan, the 2+2 four-seaters were marketed in the Japanese domestic market (JDM) as the GTO, and globally as Mitsubishi 3000GT. In North America, it was sold both as the Mitsubishi 3000GT (1991-1999) and the Dodge Stealth (1991-1996), a badge engineered, mechanically identical captive import." Do you have a Javanese GTO model then?

It was around 2001 or 02 I found out about the Stealth was used. I had the Dodge Stealth & KIFT model kits. Both kits windows fit each other. If I am remembering right only difference was KIFT's was in two pieces and the Stealth was one. I like both designs of KITT & KIFT. I just would have liked it if it was Three Thousand & black. Or at least had the hood black like the Banshee had. I guess that was for Pontiac's sake.

I'm actually a huge fan of KR watching every Friday night on NBC like other kids of that era. I too bought the KIFT model kit but also bought the Stealth for the chassis and engine. The Stealth chassis fit perfectly into the 4000 . I painted mine black with the tan interior and some parts box wheels painted black with the lips of the wheels in silver. I also added the 2000 dash from an OG KR kit. I wanted family lineage not show correctness! I wasn't a fan of the red color used on KIFT so i painted mine up just like the 2000. Going back to an episode of KR I remember KITT quoting Henry Ford in saying: "Any color as long as its black". I had so much fun building this model and used stills from the real car and also watching the made for TV movie a few times just to get my creative juices flowing. KnightRiderForLife!

what's funny is you guys can easily recreate everything that is in the picture dash with modern technology. I would actually like to see it put onto a golf cart chassis or a homemade go-kart chassis or 😁even one of those three wheelers cars you sometimes see in certain towns or cities and be able to be driven around, of course you would have to close the backup but nothing but a little bit of plastic sheeting or whatever you want to do would do the trick to cover the backup. 😄 I got to love the Las Vegas security in the scene of you guys loading the car, reminds me of Paul blart Mall cop, him just standing on his Segway watching you load the car up, got to be kidding me they couldn't make that badge any bigger on the Segway it's practically a shield and I mean literally a shield. 😄 Oh man you must have gotten the copyright strikes left and right during those questions sections.

I think the first Banshee was a pair of prototypes made about 1964 which were two seat sports cars with an appearance that foretold the third generation Corvette - and that was why they didn't get built, GM was afraid they'd cut into Corvette sales. Seems as though at least one has the OHC-6 engine, and like the Corvette they had removable hardtops. At least one still exists.

As much as I love the lines on the 4000, and appreciate the work they put into building the cars, I really don't think that it was practical if they ended up making a new series. The original show was blessed with the train wreck cars and for the most part it wasn't too much of a project turning a TA into Kitt, but turning a Stealth into a 4000 would be a major job in comparison. Great video guys. AJ, did you get to check out that gentleman's club behind you? 😉😁😄 Be well my friends

I think Video Bob the Delorean BTTF Car conversion guy had the driver version of this car a few years back. He had a few videos trying to get it running. Don't know what became of it or if he sold it.

It'd be amazing to see this gem restored, but the semi definitely takes precedence for now. The dash is probably gonna be a nightmare, especially since you never get a good close-up of it in the film. At least the rest of the interior appears to use stock Stealth parts.

It was an acquisition of opportunity. I didn't even realize it existed until I saw it in Jay's shop that day, actually... As far as I can remember, Jay got it back after the dash had been removed, but I'll have to check my notes on that to give more details in a follow-up video...

I believe this car's original dash was on the tinted window stunt car that Jay restored.

Nice way to be in front of a strip joint in Vegas. if this is Fremont street (which I have been down that street when it is called The Fremont Street Experience) I think I know where that strip joint is. The way you have the steering wheel set it kind of reminds me of Tweaky's face from Buck Rodgers

majobis, yes indeed, this was the very same Fremont Street Experience you speak of, back in March of 2010. Those strip joints seem to move around and multiply every single year, that place changes fast and often...

I'd love to see the KIFT insert restored! I did want to say... and maybe this is just me, but there are a LOT of very pregnant pauses in this video. I don't know if that's just your conversational style, AJ, or if it's because you're way better at talking to people than a camera, but it definitely made me feel awkward more than once during the video. Maybe it's just me but it did make me feel a huge loss of the energy I generally feel watching these videos. But I'd definitely like to see a Historians level restoration of the insert car, and maybe even see if you can track down Jay's molds because it would be very interesting to reconstruct a replica, using the same methods they originally constructed it with.

Thanks, Shaun Horton, I appreciate the feedback. Yes, the pregnant pauses are intentional, so that I don't talk too fast on camera. That's something I've learned from taking public speaking coaching over the years. So, I'm curious...which pause made you feel awkward? I'll keep in in mind for future shoots. And because you said this, I'll try to return to my "faster talking over-energetic self" for future videos. It was a bit difficult for me to slow down this much...

@@KRHExclusives Oh wow! I didn't expect to get an individual response! I really hope you didn't take it as too bad critique but there was two were I felt kind of awkward, the first right at the start, when you said that we're fans and we know exactly what it is, it felt like a very long pregnant pause before you delivered that line. The second was at about 26 minutes when you were talking about if there was any intrumentation in the dash of the original insert car. That one I feel like it was almost like... leaving space for the editor to put in those insert shots from the movie, so not really the same motivation, but it felt awkwardly long. BUT! Following my personal philosophy of always following critique with compliment, one of my favorite moments in this video was at 26:17 when you really let some of that personality show and asked how long do you want to be here, we don't have time for that... it made me laugh, and it felt like that was a moment we really got to see "who IS AJ' for those who haven't been around long. And I love that you had a very showmanlike way of deferring content to where and when it should be paced. That's probably some of that public speaking training you mentioned!

@KRHExclusives Жыл бұрын
@@shaunhorton5619 no offense taken...I see what you share as valuable feedback, seriously! And I appreciate you taking the time to expand in detail...I value you taking the time to do that even MORE. "the first right at the start, when you said that we're fans and we know exactly what it is" Interesting you should point that one out at 0:42. Originally, that was an afterthought for us to do that silly quiet paused comment, and originally I had intended to edit it all out. That one was NOT intentional at the start. But when I watched it again during editing, I kinda liked the effect it created...literally I was hooked by the "pregnant pause" there, to make it feel a little "off" and keep the viewer intrigued. But seriously, knowing that it had a negative effect for you instead of a positive one, that is very good to know. I'll think more carefully before including "accidental" pauses like this for effect in future videos. "The second was at about 26 minutes when you were talking about if there was any instrumentation in the dash...[as if] leaving space for the editor to put in those insert shots from the movie" Ah, yes, actually, at 27:02 I did split our natural dialog stream and insert a few seconds of silence to extend that shot, because at that moment I did indeed want to spend a few extra seconds showing all those shots in succession. I thought nobody would notice that the pause there in the dialogue was unnaturally a little long, but you did...and that's really good to know! Honestly I thought you were initially referring to pauses between my words in my dialogue by the car. I was trying to pace myself and be more thoughtful about my words, slowing down more than I might in a natural conversation. Good to know you were talking about other things...so glad you clarified! Of the nearly 250 comments+replies on this video so far, you are the only one who's providing real, actionable feedback for how I'm shooting and producing these videos. One commenter below said "Cool piece of history, but this guy is painful to watch." You should scroll down and read my reply, you might get a kick out of it...but I don't think they'll care enough to provide any more color on that comment, let alone the quality of feedback that you have here. I'm making a concerted effort to produce more videos for this channel, and I spent 36~40 hours on the editing side of this one. Excessive perhaps, and it probably doesn't show, but I'm a very slow learner with video editing and production, so I just press through hoping eventually I will get better at this. So, all that said, thanks again for comments like this, and please, keep them coming! I really do appreciate it!!!!
