That look of pure, unadulterated joy on your face when KITT spoke for the first time made my week. Plus seeing the dash light up and the power down sequence would never get stale for me. I think (mixing a few TV universes here) that MacGyver-ing a few repairs for the time being is a good way to visualise how the car will end up and give you a target to strive for. Looking forward to seeing this project evolve.

Congratulations - what a cool buy! I'm from Denmark and when I was in the military service one of my fellow conscripts arrived in a perfectly restored Knight Rider car! My jaw almost dropped! Also, I remember those days after school where my best friend and I were watching Airwolf and Knight Rider - good times! Personally I was more of an Airwolf fan but I enjoyed Knight Rider almost just as much. However, I always knew, if it ever comes to a fight between Knight Rider and Airwolf, Airwolf will clearly win! Just saying! :D

So awesome Christian. There's a lot of opportunity to add some dynamic stuff with some simple microcontroller programming. Imagine the turbo sounds being activated when the accelerometer detects you start moving above a certain threshold. Also, you could make a more sophisticated random sample replay, perhaps grouping them into event buckets and picking one at random when an event occurs. Also trivial to add a cooldown so it doesn't replay too often. Happy to help out if you want to start exploring the possibilities.

@@lordmatthewlukeobrien This is exactly the truth. Nostalgia is treated far too much like some sort of "Oh, you can't let go and grow up".. but this could not be further from the truth. I am 36 and I refuse to let go of the things that I enjoyed as a child.. but I am fully aware of my responsibilities and I do my part as an working adult. I just am happier than most because I find joy in the same things I did as a child and I nurture that feeling every chance I get. I may not build tree huts myself any longer, but I walk around into the woods and to the places I were as a child and have my nostalgia hits. Nostalgia must be savored. You need not be controlled by it simply because you willingly seek it out. Personally I encourage it strongly.
@lordmatthewlukeobrien

@@Catonzo Well I did grow up, and let the corporate machine sap out the majority of my zeal for life through the process of becoming a "fully (fooly?) grown adult" to where I lost sight of the creativity and and sense of wonder working and studying had drained me of. Over the last month or two I have pretty much retraced all my childhood steps and taken in the changes that have occurred over the years whilst at tge same time reigniting the spark and imagination, my "inner child" so to speak inside me which had long laid dormant. And as a result I am happier, and probably look younger based on feeling like a teenage punk rocker once more.

A good way to make stand offs or cushions to press loose panels into place is to buy a foam Yoga Block. They are made out of a dense foam and you get a lot of it. You can cut bits off the block that are just the right size with a razor knife and use hot glue or double sided tape to fix it to the PCB or panel and it will provide a firm stand off that won't cause damage if you press a little hard. They are usually very cheap and you get a lot of material to use for all kinds of repairs!

What fun you're having with K.I.T.T. I thought PCB stands for Pretty Car Boards... Well You know I was thinking if they made a Knight rider today, what would it be, and what upgrades would they make? I know you're trying to make a period accurate version of the car, but it's just a thought experiment for fun... The Cassette tape player!?!? LOL Got to have it I suppose! (p.s. I'm just having fun in the comment, I'm very happy for you and having your childhood dream come true!)

@@RetroRecipes Yes, I would think that's how you can realize a real KITT, but I was thinking what kind of new advanced tech they would have on it... Back when this show was on, this tech was out of reach, so what out-of-reach tech would there be if they were making the show today... that's plausible... Okay here's 2 ideas I have: for example a camouflage stealth mode that the car's skin blends in to the surroundings so you couldn't be easily detected, or deployable drones with cameras and 2-way audio, that kind of stuff...

@@RetroRecipes Have you seen those videos about how they made a car disappear with LED technology? Imagine you can make the KITT car in stealth mode drive up to the bad guys hideout and at a press of a button it would disappear! I'm sure you've seen that trick before, it depends on the viewing angle and such, but it is technology that we're just barely able to make work today. But imagine transparent, flexible OLEDs that conform to the body of a car, when switched off it looks like a glossy coat of paint, when turned on, cameras and AI make the OLEDS project what's behind the car and sides, top, and front in 360 to disappear. It's the stuff of Sci-Fi! Again it's a made-for-TV kind of gimmick.

That boot-polish thing for the dash...i learnt that on Wheeler Dealers😅 It worked beautifully on the dash of my 36 year old 944s. Works great on black leather seats as well! Looking forward to the next episode, cheers!

With all the amazing things you have already tweaked, there are companies that are still making small CRT monitors for construction equipment use that would fit Perfectly in the frames to the right on the dash, that I think would be amazing. I look forward to seeing how this progresses.

I was worried about your purchase when we first got to see it - mainly due to the transportation damage, but OMG - that's become a thing of beauty! Great work fixing it up! Looking forward to see many more videos! Knight Rider has a special place in my heart too! Growing up, there was Knight Rider, Street Hawk, Airwolf, and Blue Thunder too. Airwolf was my choice - I didn't watch Blue Thunder. Knight Rider however was always on my telly!!!

Hey Christian, the best part about it is ,you did it all your self. When I used work on my cars modifying them, I felt so rewarded when I got done because I had done it my self. It was so fun watching you in this video fixing things, and the first time you would try it your face would light up so much, like a kid on Christmas morning. Loved the video, stay safe, cheers and congrats. 😊
