I headed out to a place called Stiffkey (pronounced "stoo-key"), a large coastal saltmarsh in north Norfolk, for some scouting for maybe a potential future project. Though while driving there, something caught my eye, so I had to pull over and make some images.

Nick, I live in STIFFKEY. I have lived in North Norfolk for nearly all of my 74 years. The village of STIFFKEY is not pronounced Stewkey. The etymology is a derivation of the Old English word, Stiucai, (as named in the Doomsday Book 1086) Meaning Tree Stump Island. Stew-key refers to the blue/grey mud, formed from the Crettacceous Bedrock. The marsh is home to the World's Famous light blue coloured COCKLES, not CRABS, that live an inch or two under the surface of the mud. They are known as STEWKEY Blues. Thus, the village is STIFFKEY. The marsh and the cockles are Stewkey.
