This was such a helpful video to understand more about colour triads. Jane is a treasure, she has so much experience and knowledge of the way colour works, through her explorations and experiments. Thank you.

There's been a lot happening over the past 2 years. I've completed Jane's online Mastering Watercolors course and it is phenomenal. I've also led others to her site. If you are serious about learning color harmony and painting with watercolors, be sure to sign up for Jane's course. It is super easy to access the assignments and you can go at your own pace.

Very informative. My only issue is that you recorded in portrait instead of landscape which made the screen screen too small.

Wow!!!!! Light bulb moment for me. Jane's grey is named after Jane. Cool !!!! I have that grey in my pallet. Plus blue panes grey and Payne's grey. I really love the blue panes grey though. Karen from Canada ☺☺☺☺

I really am enjoying this video. You're both so happy discussing this wonderful world of watercolor. Soooooo much to learn. ☺☺☺☺ I find it quite interesting how Jane has her greens organised in that little pie shaped container, as well as other colors. This was in another video. But I would like to know a little more about that. Karen from Canada

Thank you for all those watercolor information! I’ve been an artist most my life but always stayed alway from watercolors because there’s so much to learn about that medium but but you and Jane help to explain things so it’s not so overwhelming.

I recently got Daniel Smith Cerulean Blue Chromium and compared it to my Winsor & Newton Cerulean Blue and I love the richness and coolness of the Chromium but decided to go with the W&N for my main porcelain palette. To me I find it warmer (closer to a sky color) and less similar to Phthalo Blue than the Chromium. I like each color on a palette to be unique and less like other colors and I found the Chromium to be almost like a granulating Phthalo Blue Green Shade in a way. I will definitely add it to a palette in the future as I love the color; just not on my main one. So if you're trying to choose between the two: Chromium is cooler and richer and a tiny bit deeper than regular Cerulean (like from W&N)

Thank you for this video! I, too, am beginning my watercolor journey and found this info so helpful. I recently found mixing buff titanium with lavender produced a beautiful gray I fell in love with. I was trying to create a certain color from a dragonfly photo. Didn't get that color but found one I love! Again, thanks a bunch and loved the conversation.

I just have bought James ultimate mixing book... It's SO brilliant. I just bought the red in her book that's being discontinued as she uses it in her book and I am working through her book in my own mixing book. It's an exciting journey. I am no painter, but I do calligraphy, and I am a colour nerd and am becoming so interested in pigment colours

Thank you for this terrific tutorial. What I don’t understand is the thought process on how you choose the three original colors of each triad. Can you clarify?

Hi Carolyn! Jane is actually coming back for a workshop and will be going into a lot more depth about triads if you're interested, and we have spots left if you're interested in joining us! In short, identifying one primary color, such as sky blue, is a good place to start. Then you can experiment with what yellows mix nicely for green and which reds mix nicely for purples - Explore and have fun! :)

Thanks for the video! One of the best, and a great complement to the course, which I am already taking. I wrote to Daniel Smith to ask if they ever publish a colour wheel showing the placement of their paints (or maybe only the most popular ones, since there are so many), but have not had a response yet. I think I spotted one as Jane flipped through her samples. Are there any plans for Jane to either publish hers, or to show us how to make our own? (I'd rather have a more complete one than I could make, though, so I have an aid to choose future paints.) Anyway, thanks again.

Hi there! This video was recorded a few years ago, and unfortunately, I am not sure what paper was used in this video. But I can still make a recommendation! Hanhnemuhle and Arches cold press paper are our go-to here over at Art Toolkit!

If the class was truly helpful she could just upload it to KZbin. It would be free for us and earn her and her offspring money for eternity.
