You can just imagine the people and their lives. Feeling that energy of just being there. A reflection of then and now, is very humbling and to be able to see the pottery, the stones for building living spaces, the possible stones used for cutting hides or food and walking the path. A beautiful journey of crossing paths with the ancient inhabitants. It's really beautiful. Thanks agian for sharing.

Thank you, Collene! You captured in words exactly how I felt up there walking amongst the ruins. It had a very special feeling there. 🙏🐶🙂

Nice video. I have been to this site a number of times and it is one of my favorites. The national forest service has a pamphlet that provides a lot of information. What you are calling agite is actually chert. It is from Pedernal Mountain which is the tall flat top mountain to the west. What makes this ruin so fascinating is that it has 17 kivas. One is a great kivas located about 500 feet west of the ruin. You can’t see it from the ruin. It is much larger than the kivas near the main ruin. On the Mesa top there is also an earth alignment which held a reservoir. There is evidence that they were raising crops on the Mesa top. The area also contains staircases carved into the rock, shrines, and cave dwellings. I first visited this site about 40 years ago with an archaeologist. It’s a fascinating site and it’s wonderful that you shared your outlining with us. Thanks for the references to 1491 and interesting information about other cultures. Happy trails!

Thank you so very much for taking the time to leave such an informative comment. I live about 9 hours drive away from the site. But I would like to study up on it and go back again. Your comment has more information in it that I have been able to find elsewhere. I’ll reach out to the Park Service and try to get one of those pamphlets. Again, thank you so much!

You also need a permit from the FS to visit the site. They send the pamphlet with your permit. It is free

We did get permits. But somehow I missed the pamphlet. My buddy got the permits for us and he may have unintentionally neglected sharing it with me. I’ll reach out and get one from the Forest Service. Thanks again!

I have to keep him safe from coyotes. He loves to go on these adventures. But there are predators out there. I think I armored him up about as much as reasonably possible. If he keep it on, I’d make him a horned helmet! lol 🐶😎

Ruins are always inspiring and interesting to see, but what still moves me to the core in northcentral New Mexico is visiting the the still living sites of Taos Pueblo and Acuma Sky town. Continuously inhabited, people able to live near each other for so long and something not found anywhere else in the US!

Your in O'Keeffe Country, Lance! I just saw Cerro Perdernal in the big view. Thats her favorite mountain she painted often. Nearby is Ghost Ranch where they are digging up Dinosaurs. Ojo Caliente hot springs, Abiqui village a very old settlement. I love this area and have painted all around this area.

Wow! I did not know that. Thank you for sharing this. The area is incredibly beautiful. I hope to go back and explore further. Would love to see your paintings! 😎🐶
