while kishimoto didn't have a lot good female characters, Tsunade is truly one of the best main ones that have stayed consistent throughout the show. Her back story was sad and heartbreaking, as well as helpful into understanding how she became the person she is in the series. Even the good ones (Kushina, Konan) are dead.

What do you mean, there is an abundance of great female characters in naruto. Ino, sakura, tsunade, hinata, kaguya, mei, paku, temari, sarada, lady chiyo, konan, tenten, rin, and kushina to name a few. Kishimoto has created a lot of strong, kind, and fleshed out female characters. I don't know why people think that he can't write good female characters, when he has created some of the best in anime in general. Saying otherwise discredits the important roles they played in the show and the feats that they accomplished.

@@ExeErdna there was no power creep in the show. Each character was born with a specific set of talent, intelligence, and familial abilities if that pertains to them. Each character that stayed alive trained themselves to their up most limit to master the abilities they were born with. This applies to the female characters too. The females we have seen are incredibly strong, but since they were kids they started out very weak unless they came from a strong bloodline. So they along with most other characters needed some time before they could fight on their own. It isn't a matter of them being written to be weak, they just needed more time until they could become conventionally strong. Only people like minato, kakashi, itachi, etc. that this doesn't apply to.

I admittingly criticized Tsunade since she was most likely the "Weakest" Hokage and saw her status of being the Sannin started to worn off. Sage's Rain put a very new perspective that she may not be the most powerful, she is the most human Hokage (and overall Kage) ever. Naruto does a fantastic job telling a character's journey after what would seem to be an unbearable loss or weakness, and elevates them to the be the best it can be through defending those that they loved so they can strive for no loss. Princess Tsunade is no exception.

Tsunade Senju a woman of many names: The first’s granddaughter Kakegurui Legendary sucker World’s Greatest medical ninja But two name’s she’ll never be rid of are: granny and the fifth hokage, she protected the leaf against great evil at the expense of herself overcame he fears of blood and seeing loved ones die due to Naruto’s example which she took to heart and stepped up when the village needed a leader. Her story to me is about overcoming fear and enduring through the bad times even when you are at your weakest, although Tsunade used less than healthy methods to cope with grief such as numbing the pain through alcohol and sacrificing every penny just to feel something, anything. When Naruto showed her his resolve it strengthened her to take up the mantle of hokage and lead the Konoha through any evil and power through it. During the war she gained closure after meeting with Dan and that gave her the strength to keep fighting even though her body was beyond repair. Love is what gave Tsunade the will to live on and keep fighting that is what endurance is whenever I see Tsunade Senju.

I’ve always thought Lady Tsunade to be an underrated character. A woman with a steadfast heart who’s filled with the conviction of faith towards her village. I’ve always thought it to be comical of how during Tsunade’s reign as Hokage, we rarely see her in the presence of the elders/Danzo. And when with them, they’re usually at each other’s throats. Not that their input or concerns were completely without merit but if we look at the results of their decisions, then we know that their protection over the leaf only festered unto the next generation of Shinobi. Whereas Tsunade was the active Hokage when the world of said-Shinobi was saved by the very leaf ninja she decided to place her faith in. Quite fitting for the medical ninja to have been in office when the world was saved and the great nations united Anyways, I’m always glad to see her character be appreciated and praised, because it’s definitely deserved. So may her will of fire burn unto not only the future generation of Naruto but in our world as well. Here’s to you, granny Tsunade

Plus it was his buddy danzo who leaked the info about Naruto being the 9 tails to the village, and he did nothing to stop or punish danzo for it. He let the village terrorize/shun naruto for 13 years. If at any point naruto gave in and wanted everyone dead that would've been on the 3rd. Also him looking out for naruto wouldn't be favoritism. It's not like he's gonna automatically let naruto pass the graduation exam or anything. It could be seen as the hokage taking interest in the well-being of the village's one and only deterrent against the tailed beasts of other villages. No matter how you look at it the 3rd could've done more for naruto. Oh, and dying was an act for the whole village. It wasn't naruto specific btw.

Tsunade protected the village and groomed the next generation during a time when Konoha was in a terrible situation. She protected the village and its citizens and made diplomatic relations possible, She believed in kids when the adults did not and also inspired them. Tsunade also did her best to protect Sasuke from others when he left the village. She was the Hokage the village needed the most and she did her part exceptionally.

Well I love Tsunade and it fits with her story that she would want to protect the dreams of Nawaki/Dan/Naruto to become Hokage and her storyline is great in my eyes (even if she does get a lot of hate, since people seem to think only raw power is important in the narutoverse, and not healing justu or even diplomacy). But it's auite annoying that NOT one female character has a dream of her own. Like, not a single lady in Naruto has a dream that isn't linked to a guy (most female characters wants to date whatever guy, or wants to protect and help a guy's dream be realized), and that's pretty bad writing. Like people don't even have to have a dream, it's fine not to have one, but it would be nice not to have every female characters putting other (male) characters at the center of their world and purpose

This was so well done I could almost cry. Tsunade was my favorite, and I love what she represented. Outside of Naruto and maybe Kakashi and Minato, I would say she is also the most balanced hokage as well. Hashirama was too naive and soft, Tobirama was too militaristic and prejudiced, and Hiruzen was too much of a pushover to his fellow council members and just wouldn't deal with Danzo. There's a video that better explains why she's the best Hokage called "Who is the best Hokage?" highly recommend.

She was honestly a great hokage. The way she managed so many disasters and refused to be weighed down by the past (not hesitating to get rid of the council once they proved to be unhelpful). Sure she made some mistakes like with Jiraya, but you also have to understand how dangerous a mission it was and how keeping such a team to a minimum would be important. She understood her people and did what she could to help them improve. She wasn't afraid to act when she needed to, accepting any consequences that came her way. I think she was a far superior hokage to the third and people need to give her a lot more respect and credit.

After all that gambling and time away from being with people who should matter the most, Tsunade fell deeper into despair and solitude. We all know what solitude and loneliness does to people in this world and in the world of Naruto, notably Obito, Madara, Kakashi, Sasuke, Gaara, Kabuto, Danzo and others. In a way, if it isn't Jiraiya or Naruto, the one person I think in-universe knows Tsunade to the greatest extent is her constant companion, Shizune. I don't know exactly where it is stated directly, but Shizune is in fact Dan's niece. Having someone that close to the lover she lost must've made it easy for Tsunade to bond with the black-haired medic. Their relationship highlights to me that the bond between teacher and student can and should go both ways, Tsunade teaching Shizune medical ninjutsu and bringing her up to Jonin level, while Shizune takes care of Tsunade's every need during her time away from the village. I'm willing to bet that it was Shizune that first noticed the similarity between Tsunade and Sakura when the Fifth Hokage took her in. While the student/teacher relationship would still go on, evolving into leader/advisor, one could also argue the mother/daughter or grandmother/granddaughter angle for these two women.

Coming back to this video 3 years later, I think there's something very touching and meaningful (whether Kishimoto intended it to be read this way or not) that Naruto's first Rasengan was manifested in an act of protecting someone else, Tsunade in particular. Tsunade as the greatest medical ninja symbolizes a kind of meliorism and love, a belief that things can get better if pursued in earnest. In the end, all powerful ninjutsu or whatnot in the Narutoverse is the most powerful when used to protect the hopes, dreams, and love of one's people. The Will of Fire is indeed strong.

All of these clips with the cartoonnetwork logo in it reminds me why I love it over channels like nickelodeon. CN even to this day isn't afraid to show more mature shows or shows with mature themes. But when they first showed Naruto, they showed the whole thing many times before being sent to Toonami.
