I've seen people have issues trying to use HC chips to replace LS chips, but HCT chips were compatible. This was on a vintage 8-bit computer. Thanks for the video. Enjoyed the refresher course.

Thanks Bill. That was fun to watch and I learned something 🤠. By the way, I watched your video on the Hantek 5102p oscilloscope. I ordered it from Amazon and I like it so far. I'm half way through the owners manual. I have an app on my tablet that I can access any owners manual. 😊

I mixed a Couple of times a 3,3V UART TX with a 5V RX without connecting the VCC between the devices and got "lucky" when flashing, maybe a pinch of a voltage down would have destroyed the flashing and would have lead me to a lot of head scratches, now I understand why you should not mix them , also I thought that a logical zero is what is bellow of a half of the VCC, but this video helped me understand that may be way down than that. Thanks. (Don't worry I am hobbyist and not an engineer that produces thousands of devices )

12:32 I was thinking the reverse is correct, CMOS really pick up any noise due to their high input Z. TY!

Schottky. TTL specs are 2.0 V is high. 4xxx CMOS specs are 2/3 VCC is high. For highest reliability it is best not to mix the series.

As always, a good video Bill, thank you. Might I ask that, if possible you try and angle LEDs towards the camera, with a side-on view of a LED it's very difficult to see if it's lit up or not. I am a bit vision impaired so apologies if this is just me that has a problem.
@1pcfred Жыл бұрын
Those old red LEDs are hard to see when they're lit. I had to go through all of my LEDs and put the old ones in their own drawers.

I have a new camera mount above the bench which will hopefully improve the led visibility somewhat! Sorry but it's going to be the end of May before you will see it in use as I make videos many weeks in advance.

@@LockdownElectronics just use new LEDs. They're a lot more visible than the old ones. Try blue LEDs. They're really bright.

Big difference between 74 series and 40 series used to be that if you looked at the CMOS chip cross-eyed it would self-destruct due to the static electricity generated by your eyelashes.

nice work, I prefer CMOS however, TTL is much faster. I need to find TTLS rules regarding fan out, in Z etc.

wow...back to history...how about doing RTL, that was in use in the 1960's/?

I don't quite get the habit of comparing BJTs to FET, as if BJTs are real transistors and FET aren't transistors. Is more legitimately a transistor than the other? Is it just tradition, or is there an actual logic to it?
