Thank you for your excellent videos very informative for us newbies.

20:18 Question: Why I thought that there would be two causes of this kind of short circuit one is a shorted ic and the other is a short within the capacitor itself, isn't that right ? Please explain this point. Thank you for your great explanations.

I have an Asus transformerbook model T100TA that got water damaged . I checked the motherboard and found a series of ceramic capacitor , around the power management IC , were shorted . The IC is not hot , I tried desoldering the chip to see if the short stopped , but I still have shorted ceramic capacitors . they are many around the IC , I don' want to remove them one by one to check every single of them
@electronicsrepairbasics_erb3 ай бұрын
It sounds like you're dealing with a persistent short in the power management area. If the IC is not the culprit and the capacitors are still shorted, the short could be elsewhere in the circuit. Instead of removing each capacitor, you can try injecting a low voltage (around 1V) into the shorted power rail and use a thermal camera or an alcohol test to see which component heats up, indicating the source of the short. This method can save time and prevent unnecessary desoldering. Best of luck, and feel free to reach out if you need more tips
@tunkunrunk3 ай бұрын
@@electronicsrepairbasics_erb by the way , excuse me Sir , I forgot to mention that there is a series of smd inductors too around the IC . they are squared and grey , but their terminals are underneath them (called smd molding inductors) , I can't reach them with my multimeter's probes . I can see some round circles on top of a few of them , these circles are very slightly pushed inward , I would say less than 0.2 mm deep . could the smd squared inductors be the cause of the short ?
@electronicsrepairbasics_erb3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your detailed observation. Yes, SMD molding inductors can sometimes be involved in causing shorts, especially if there is an internal fault. The slightly pushed-in circles you mentioned might indicate some heat-related stress or mechanical wear, but they alone wouldn't confirm a short. To properly test those inductors, you can try using needle-tip multimeter probes or oscilloscope probes for better contact. If you’re still having trouble, desoldering one leg of the inductor and testing it off the board may help isolate the issue. Let me know if you need further guidance

I think you mistaken the pin 3 Vout as an output on U20 (22:32 - 22:50) and I don't think it is, is it not actually an input signal to tell the IC that an output (buck regulated) is created by Q27 and Q26? If that was the output why is it not a bolt line, but instead a signal line?

I like video, but im a little scared why so simple capasitors are tested with multimeter, in caps could be some voltages, 25v or more... Caps are not friendly, its should be discharged... Is good to use multimeter on caps without discharging?
@electronicsrepairbasics_erb8 ай бұрын
Yes you can discharge it if you want, but note that the capacitor discharges automatically when the power is removed

I have an issue with LED diodes (7 of them) on a washing machine pcb. When I turn on the power diodes do not turn on. When I touch som of their SMD driver transistor's middle pin with my finger or with the multimeter's lead, I guess those are collectors, some or all diodes turn on, but do not stay on more than 10 seconds. Does anyone have an idea what could cause it.
