Emotional discomfort always revolves around the separate self.. face it so fully that you're okay with it.. with no slightest traceable resistance..
@Misslotusification
@Misslotusification 5 жыл бұрын
4:55: The usual way to deal with uncomfortable feelings (discomfort, boredom, sadness, lack,...) is to avoid (deny) or repress them --3:30: by diverting us in many gross (entertainment, food, drink, drugs,...) or subtle ways (repetitive thinking, day-dreaming, looking at the last non-duality video,...) to stuff it up, and this is the motive of most of our actions when we're not working. Be attentive to the impulse to divert yourself. Rather face and either accept (but not to make it away, out of genuine interest and enthusiasm) or dissect the feeling on a mental level (the narrative coming after the feeling and that revolves around the separate self, the fearful self) and on a physical level (the body sensations). But whatever you do, don't do it out of obligation, discipline, don't make it a practice or a duty (what I should do to attain my goal), coz all that strengthens the separate self. Do everything out of interest or love. As E. Tolle says, refrain from doing. One damn thing after the other. Just be. Most of human madness comes from their inability to simply be with themselves.

To me it took me awhile to see the actually the uncomfortable feelings are nothing more than the habit of what once was which are coming to light. But it took awhile to see it that is for sure. In the beginning I thought that this meditation/awareness business was making my life more difficult. It was actually just bringing or make me aware of all the shit that has been buried and neglected. That is really that simple. But you have just relax and just hang in there.

Sometimes it feels that this feeling of loneliness is too big..and the mind always projects it like this...But its only the scope of the resistence that makes it look so big..it is never the truth..the truth never burdens us..it just seems to be far from us..both of these approaches..word and no-word..are very useful..and only when Rupert was mentioning them I fully realised that I have been using them quite naturaly..thank you Rupert!

Once you stop runing away from this kind of feelings and realize its not about them but your attitude towards those emotions and welcome every one of them with love I believe is the day when you become peaceful....if you cant accept then accept that you cant accept. And if you cant accept that you cant accept then accept that you cant accept that you cant accept. And keep accepting this unaccaptance.

as a teenager i would experience waves of sadness accompanied by desperation unaware of what was causing it. the sadness would tease my curiousity. i mean.. it was really heavy sadness acompanied by a crave for non existence. that helpless thinking spinned itself into a dead end street and i was forced to look at the emotion directly. what i saw shocked me. i realized that the feelings themselves were in all honesty so pleasent that in one weird way i actually enjoyed them. the sadness itself is such a gentle energy. it is so soft and mushy and teary and mellow and whining.... it envelopes the entire body just wanting to be cushioned and carressed. desperation however was a panicky feeling of being trapped. losing control. something caused desperation to prevent the experience of sadness. sadness my dear fellow men and women is so sweet. not delightful but just sweet like candy. wollow in it any time it is there. why resist it? treat yourself some sweets from time to time. but why exactly sadness is needed i dont know. all i know it can arise and when it does pamper in it... like a little baby... whine it off with pleasure. is it possible that sadness is there because we actually enjoy it? i know that crosses the boundaries of reason but from my experience it just appears so. we're all like little masochists. we enjoy it secretly

I really recognize your words and agree with you. I've lived with the waves, my whole life, they arrive about every two weeks and stays for 3-7 days. I'm a very sensitive, introverted and melancholic personality, I love big feelings, both joy, beauty and sadness. One thing I've discovered is that if I'm tired or out of balance with my everyday life structure and healthy living, the waves gets so big and intense that they can swipe me of my feet and I find my self caught up in them and has to pull my self back to regain acceptance and focus. This doesn't happen as much anymore, because of acceptance, openness and awareness to my own personality, when my emotions vibrate, I feed my senses with nature, art and music and regularly naps if needed. Love "the song of the butterfly" it can always awaken beautiful comforting feelings.

It felt beautiful when the sense of self dropped and all that is left is the warm, raw wavelike sensation in the body. I'll surely use these two techniques but to not get rid of the uncomfortable emotion from the motivation of the separate self but to explore it in a loving approach.

Oh boy! Do I have a comment for y'all! I've been battling IBS C the pain is so violent and everyday. I felt everything in my Intestines. EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! It felt like 1000 toothpicks pricking my Intestines all of the time. I would bleed from my butt... Cannot poop with out having a hospital remove it. Were talking the worst case you can imagine! I was researching how to end my life. Well I'm here still :) yay. But I started doing the work Rupert is explaining... I cried so hard today, the darkness, the pain .. it's my sadness, it's my pain it's the unworthiness I've carried my whole life, it's the abandoned energy I've had my whole life. It's being spat on in jr high and bullied. It's my mom getting beat violently in front of me while growing up. It's all of that coming out in form of pain!!! Needing to be loved!!!!!!!!! I shit you not, I turned to the pain this morning, I cried to it, I told it I was so sorry I didn't see before. I told it I loved it so very much and it's ok... You can be here I touched my Intestines and no more pain. It's gone 😭 I'm sure itdll be back and THATS OKAY I love you pain so much...

This is the thing that most people will benefit from hearing and understanding... Most 'addiction' (if not all) are all rooted in this. We will all run from uncomfortable feelings through seeking some external source - a distraction. But being present with these feelings allows some relief. But avoiding them just causes them to fester and addictions (whatever they are) get stronger. I get it more now than I used to. Oh and that bit! That's the major problem with trying to allow them by thinking, "I need to heal this or 'deal' with this" and it doesn't allow them at all. It's just becoming aware of the "Ah! I'm going to the fridge right now because I'm trying to avoid some uncomfortable feeling..." is just... I don't know. It puts you in a place to actually learn to allow it, as opposed to constantly trying to 'deal' with them.

Is not every action the body or mind takes an effort to move towards or away from a feeling? Other than deep sleep when is this not the case? Even if I was an expert mind watcher, I would still need to recognize some feelings as valid calls to action such as hunger.

I have little to add. First of course see that no Ego can be found and the only I is awareness. When after really strong bad feelings that pain, constriction and heaviness remains in your chest, often surrounding your heart I suggest you do this: Stand up or ideally bent over one of those large stability balls and breathe as heavy and as deep into your lower belly and pelvis as you can. As you breath feel the energy going up and down with each breath, if you breath hard with your mouth open it will be real tide waves. Bring your awareness to your body and all the pain, constriction and heaviness will be washed away, you might very well be aware of your body sensations like never before because most of us are occupied with mind all the time and spend only fraction of time living as "heart" (feelings) and body (sensations). It is just my exercise, I'm sure that there are much better ones and I never did yoga which i'm sure has much more to say to this, just a humble exercise that work wonders to me :) Also one more point: do not avoid any bad feelings and any resistance, it only builds them up - this is how you make a bad experience into a life crippling anxiety, personal experience here, hehe. Always accept it with as much awareness you can muster.

i guess i don't understand why we have to face the feeling if it will inevitably arise again because life is full of unfortunate situations. why is it bad to use objects to distract yourself, thus temporarily subduing the feeling? it seems like facing the feeling has the same effect of subduing it?
@Balloonbot

When we run from the feelings it becomes this daunting demon chasing us; facing it allows you to reveal it - and then we don't need to be so strained in trying to contain or avoid it. In theory of course.

I don't think that sadness is a discomfort. My discomfort is made of frustration and anger-like resistance. How to face the feeling if that feeling is frustration and resistance itself? No, I don't want to live forever with this resistance and frustration. This is too much. I don't see any thought aspect, any story. I see only the frustration, I don't even know WHY I have this frustration, it just is. Just this bare impulse to escape. But there seems to be nowhere to escape. I want my resistance to go away but it seems to perpetuate itself. I'll try to surrender. My reistance is trying to return. It seems that I resist something without even knowing it. Maybe I resist the impulse to do what I would really want to do inside.

I just got that all of the mental agitation surrounding thoughts of fear and lack simply creates and supports the illusion of a separate, needy, fearful little me. Letting go of identification with such thoughts and returning to the truth of Being-Awareness helps to break the spell allowing me as Being-Awareness to sit with uncomfortable feelings without the story of Poor me! What shall I do? In any case, my understanding just went a notch deeper and for that I am grateful. That mind created illusion of a separate little me is a tricky and tenacious one to say the least, yet all smoke and mirrors.

Ive been seeking and journeying trying to find my way to this awareness. Months mow and have made some great progress. However, I am at a stand still a little and believe there is another level I need but the mediums im using are bits and pieces to say it plainly. I feel there is some major keys missing in all of It! What exactly is the difference between "this is good for me" and "I am interested in doing this"? Can't the second be a simple result of the first, without there being much discipline or tension involved?
@JessMaccain
@JessMaccain 3 жыл бұрын
"This is good for me" implies a hidden agenda if you think about it - you want to achieve an end result of "being good for me". "I am interested in doing this" has no agenda - you just do something, without necessarily the end resulf of actually achieving some goal. For example, you may be interested in doodling and colouring on a piece of paper for the entire afternoon, without the goal of actually painting a picture. But who is the judge to say that what you doodled and coloured on that piece of paper isn't some sort of "painting"? What is a "painting" anyway? I may look at your "work" and see great beauty there - and if I can connect with the beauty in your "work", does it matter whether or not your original intention is to paint a picture?

Not really. Psychological mechanisms are all defence mechanisms based on a misconception that we are seperate from a source reality. Only in the Gross causal sense do defence mechanisms have any merit. In a spiritual or whole consciousness self the seperation from the 'divine' includes non duality. Psychological perception is not non duality.

If you sit with any feeling for long enough, you will realise it is just sensation. The story you give to this sensation creates the emotion. If you sit with and let go of the resistance to these sensations, they lose their meaning of 'horrible' etc. Once the resistance has been let go, the energy behind the feeling gets released. Courage to sit with it will empty out the well of emotion - in my experience anyway. Hope this helps!

That lady at 10min sounds so South African 🙂, she's lucky she's known Rupert Spira for so long, I always wonder if I had known this information earlier, I'd be so different by now 😞, it's only been two weeks so far.

Is the practice of self remembering (remembering to relax in consciousness) also something that can strengthen the seperate self when done as a discipline? How else would I do it? I've been attempting to do this as much as I can remember, and have things to remind me, such as a bracelet, and sometimes, especially when I am experiencing heavy emotions, it requires more effort and discipline. I can see how this could lead to rigidity and the strengthening of seperate self, but how else can I get to a point of remembering more and more?

He talks of the practice of exploring sensations. Does anyone know if it is present as a video or is taught online or what it is called?
