I vaguely remember this place from when I was a lad living in Woolton, in the late 1940's. It was open to the public now and again and there were events held down there, I don't know what these events actually were, maybe garden fetes or charity fund raisers, but i do remember the quarry floor was landscaped and set out as gardens. The tunnel was another way of getting in and out, quite an adventure to me and other lads, it came up to the level of the park by a flight of steps up against the wall of a building and you had nto go through a gate to get to it. It's quite a while since I've been to the park so maybe the steps have been filled in now.

Very interesting. My auntie lived on Quarry Street above and below a shop. Her sitting room downstairs led onto a massive garden backing on to the quarry wall. I am sure I remember a gated locked door in the quarry wall

The local legend I heard growing up was when the park was the grounds of a lords home that area was his ladies private glade/garden and the tunnel was her way in and out.

Last time I went down there was 2012, I've just checked my photos and yep back then that end bit on the left was indeed mostly bricked up, seems like someone took the initiative to do a bit of demolition, shame it didn't open up to a load more tunnels. Great video by the way.

Genuinely didn’t even know this was there . Go Raynolds all the time but go in via church road which is probably why I’ve never noticed that gate …great video

Maps show that quarry as disused in the 1890's. The quarries on the other side of Woolton would have supplied stone for the Anglican Cathedral.

@@g2emedia1977 I remember the quarry supplying stone for the cathedral in the 1960s. It was off Quarry Street (Reynolds Park is off Church Rd.). There's a new road called 'The Old Quarry' so I presume that's the exact location. Part of the disused part of the quarry was a large tyre dump that caught fire about 1970. It burned for several days.

The tunnels and the arched ceilings are so well built any idea what they were used for so much stone was taken from above ground. I just don't understand why the tunnels were so well built.

Boss that, the Council should clean and open it up instead of leaving it as a dumping ground.
