Question from 14:52 Do you keep or remove the backing paper for Mint Self Adhesives in your collection? Do you think the adhesive would cause harm to the stamps and paper over time?
@peterconrad22774 жыл бұрын
I only remove the backing paper from the ones that I mount. Any that I keep in stock books or not on display I keep with backing paper.... It can be time consuming, but I would think that the adhesive would ruin the stamp over time (like 80 + years maybe?)..Great video again!
@conniejohnson93934 жыл бұрын
I keep the backing paper on mine.
@martstar14 жыл бұрын
I would keep the backing paper on, keeps it in proper mint condition. Also allows the stamp to potentially be used in the future.

I know for a fact that the gum on older self-adhesives may leak. I have a number of 1990s Dutch issues which always got stuck on my pages because of gum leakage. Also, I don't like to have single stamps with backing paper around it in my collection as I don't think it looks nice. So with those I remove the backing paper and stick the stamps on those see-through stamp mounts. I cut those away as much as possible and am then left with a stamp which looks as much as a normal stamp as possible. Unfortunately, here in Britain we now have stamps with different types of background paper, which have become collectable as well, so in those cases I would not remove the paper! Love your videos which I've only discovered today, so I'm binge-watching at the moment!

Welcome to the channel Adrian, interesting to hear about the 90s Dutch self adhesives, clearly there is reason to be concerned about the preservation of such stamps. Thank you for sharing.

I wish the USPS would find a way to use those slogan cancellations without obliterating the design of the stamp. The one on the Smithsonian stamp also appeared on a letter with a nice commem put on a letter to me by my brother. A few years ago at Christmas time they had one that was so bad that it ruined almost all the stamps on the letters mailed to me. You could say that that made me mad at the USPS, which I am finding to be a common event over the last few years. It started when they came out with the Circus cover which could only be obtained by buying the annual book. I refused to buy it.
@ExploringStamps4 жыл бұрын
I think I know exactly which Christmas cancel you are referring to... It was like someone smeared ink with their thumb over the stamps and envelope, I could identify the image on it 😕. Let's hope for better cancels.
