Do you have ant recommendations on making FCP run smoother. I have a 32gb M! Max MacBook Pro but when I try to even just add one effect from the motionfx pack sometimes the playback is really slow usually one of the 3d tracked effects.

I have the same computer, and when that happens to me with a bunch of effects and stuff I use range select export for the part that is skipping, so I can watch it clearly and clean

Do you edit with proxy files?

Transcode your media in the media window to proxy files 25%. Then change the view mode to proxy. Will take a bit for all of the files to transcode. That should help.
