It's good that they're cheaper, but going down to 3 wounds, losing movement, losing all advance and charge opportunities, and losing 3 AP on attacks? Feels like an incredible loss of place from 9th. Possibly the 20 points justifies it, but it's astonishing how many infantry options tyranids have to mess with light-medium infantry in melee, now, with limited efficacy into anything bulkier. Hormagaunts, genestealers (without brood lord), von Ryan's leapers, melee warriors, raveners. They all serve slightly different functions, but it feels a bit weird to have so many different wrenches and no hammers.

Raveners mess with more than just light infantry because of twin-linked. They can reliably wound things upto T9. With twin-linked theyre still wounding most T6-T9 units slightly more than half the time. As long as it doesnt have T10+ or a 2+ armor save they can reliably kill it. They are super good.

@@Khobai I really like them too, but they aren't very good into MEQ or Terminators because of Armor of Contempt. But, they are absolute bosses when it comes to strategic play and movement shenanigans. And yeah, they'll mulch a lot of things that they can get to a 4+ or worse armor save.

@@FrankSGuerra even with armor of contempt theyre still very good at killing MEQs. Also if youre giving marines the benefit of a strategem its only fair to do the same for tyranids as well. Crit on 5+ with sustained hits will shred standard MEQ profiles. Just not terminator profiles. they can do okay against gravis.

@@Khobai it's certainly a lot of attacks. Believe me, I'm a fan. I run a 6 man and a 3 man in my current list, and they're great.

Soooo, normal troops that are in reserve can come out in my deployment zone ( or certain abilities) i assume. Everything with the deep strike keyword gets to come in turn 2 9 away from an edge and rapid ingress is the same but in the opponents turn. Did i get that right?

Coming in from boards' edge is called Strategic Reserves and only 3rd turn can you come in from enemy deployment (pretty sure), turn 1 is your zone, turn 2 is sides. Deep Strike can arrive any turn 9" away from enemies, even in enemy deployment zone. Rapid Ingress lets you enter from any reserves at the end of the enemy movement phase, before their shooting phase.

The ranged weapons - it says you can equip them to any ravener, question is why its worded like that, why WOULDN'T you want to have that equipped? Genuine question.

I've had good results with them, they're decent enough against MEQ and absolutely shred anything lighter. Their movement gives them a good threat bubble too.

For tyranids shouldn’t they be rated as 4 snacks out of 5 instead of stars?

The nice trick with them is to start them on the board on your back line. Pluck them up at the end of your opponents turn so they can Rapid Ingress after turn 3. So Lictors Ingress on turns 2 and 3, and Raveners on turns 4 and 5.

Tbh i love raveners, the speed they have gets you great tactical advantage coupled with their redeploy to harass backlines or if you fail an alphastrike charge to pull them out of danger. They feel so easy to use to harrass light and medium or do objectives makes them a staple for my lists. Great vid as usual mate 💪

Deep strike Flyrant and 2x Ravener units. Adaptive Biology on the flyrant and his free strat ability with rapid regeneration means the whole stack gets FNP.

2x ravener units sure. flyrant is a hard pass though. that thing is baaad. Tyrants are like 50 points overcosted now and if I take one its gonna be the walking hive tyrant.

@@Khobai it's definitely not points efficient, but I don't think it's grossly overcosted. If the flyrant was 165 he'd be too cheap just for being a big synapse monster. I do miss his shardgullet tho 😩

@@Khobai I don't get why anyone would take the walkrant when you can have swarmy for 30 more pts. 195 is a big step down tho

@@Shadare because the swarmlord is bad. the walking hive tyrant gives you a free strategem on both your turn and the opponents turn and the swarmlord doesnt. And the flyrant is bad because for only 25 points more you can get the walkrant which gets 66% more attacks, has higher toughness, doesnt have the HUGE vulnerability of the fly keyword (anti-air 2+ is a thing now), and can take tyrant guard. So thats why you take the walking hive tyrant; because its least bad of the three options for getting extra CP/free strats.

@@Shadare what do you mean... a haruspex is 125 points? The flyrant is basically half as good as a haruspex in melee... and way less survivable. And whats the free strategem ability worth? maybe 50 points? so half a haruspex plus a 50 point CP ability puts the flyrant at like 150 points tops. All the tyrants are about 50 points overcosted. Its been done deliberately to sell norn emissaries as the new tyranid big bad hq.

you cant bring 4? its either 3 or 6 no 4 or 5 as an option? the spines they shoot out are in the thorax, the chest area so thoracic is like thorax but with a kick used to be they whernt a ranged weapon but a rule for their melee since they are meant to pin the enemy down and drag them into the claws, not kill sad to see lore and interesting mechanics tossed aside for simplicity, now its just a boring ranged weapon instead of a hunting strategy twin linked rerolling wound will forever be weird to me how does that make sense you swing twice as much, so you obviously reroll to hit because you can hit twice as much swinging more doesnt make you swing harder and then there is WS not being a competition, lucius or a guardsmen being equally easy to hit how reliable is deep strike now? how does that work in this edition still flashbacks from deepstriking elites in 3e rapid ingress is at the end of your opponents movement phase, while death from below is at the end of your opponents turn so cant really combo those unless you skip a turn the point reduction helps, but nids still not the pinnacle of what bioengineering can do, just swarms of meh but not bad meh, so better then some

I think the're trash, no involn save means that they are going to take massive fire and just get nukes as soon as they show up. Genestealers can take battle cannon shots, str 18? so what, on a 5 I ignore it. With the Brood lord attached, I can usually get a charge off turn one, and if the opponent is on an objective I'm rerolling ALL to wound rolls, so if the unit losses 3 coming in that 35 attacks rerolling all wounds and fishing for 6's for mortal wounds + Broodlord attacks that are twin liked and on 6's do 2 mortal wounds. Give the broodlord synaptic linchpin and the unit always has synapse and any unit within 9" also gets it, then give them the 5+ feel no pain strat, and they are horrifying. I can not tell you how many cocky SM players though their Terminators would have a walk in the park against the unit. I usually put them in the ground first round of combat. I've destroy 3 tanks with them so far. Tell me how Raveners compare to that....

How would an invuln save matter? if your opponent is wasting their AP2+ shots on Raveners youve probably already won the game. Raveners can also deepstrike so if your opponent is shooting your raveners you either did something completely wrong with them or you massively failed your charge roll and failed the cp reroll (which will screw over any melee unit). Also Genestealers are absolute garbage in 10th edition and get completely obliterated by indirect fire and blast damage. A Desolation squad will absolutely destroy a genestealer unit in 1 turn of shooting. What makes raveners better is that they cant be shot by desolation squads if theyre not on the board.

Stack of Genestealers and Synapse Broodlord is 290 points. Full unit of Raveners is 150. They serve different roles. If GSs went down to 15PPM, I might agree. I think when the Vanguard detachment comes out, they're gonna be fantastic, though.

@@FrankSGuerra they dont really serve different roles at all though. genestealers are just staight up bad at the moment and have no role. genestealers will improve with advance and charge. But desolation squads will still obliterate them. So will it be enough? maybe... maybe not.

@@Khobai I feel like kills with Raveners are just a bonus if you get any. They Rapid Ingress late game and steal primaries or score secondaries in spots that your spore mines are screened out of. GSs should be beat sticks, and they don't do a great job of it. Especially not for the 300 points it takes to make them halfway decent.

Where does it say you can only deep strike from turn 2? I haven’t been able to find that restriction in the rules?

Question: If the Raveners were put into Strategic Reserve with their ability, doesn't this mean that they cannot use Deep Strike to arrive at battlefield in the following rounds? Since Strategic Reserve technically counts as different "pool" of Reserve?

Deep Strikes is not "Strategic Reserves", it is a deployment ability and part of "Reserves."
