I pre-ordered Leviathan and this is my first time playing Warhammer 40k. I can't wait. This video is so motivating! Can't wait to paint them!
@kevinbaldwin640 Жыл бұрын
Me too, lol. Well just getting into 40k, didn't buy leviathan yet, but i want to because im slowly falling in love with nids, lol. My main army will be Dark Angels, cause i love them. I mean, best terminators, 3 color schemes for one army, Azrael attached to a squad of hellblasters is gross, oh and the Lion is an absolute unit. I want nids as my seconed army, but having trouble deciding between hive fleets Kraken and Tiamet for the paint scheme.
@Jason-gq8fo Жыл бұрын
The third scheme is really nice but much harder and more effort for an army. It’s tough because part of why I want to do nids is to have something I can paint lots of quickly
@wolfie54321 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I really like the 3rd scheme but never going to go to that effort for even a whole squad of Termies let alone a whole army. Perhaps if the arm transitions could be laid down with an airbrush rather than contrast paints? Dunno.

Your approach to these schemes are fantastic. I'm really tempted to use your method for Hivefleet Kraken as the steps are relatively simple but the results are very satisfying. Very nostalgic as someone who played when their first codex was released.

The first one, albeit a classical, is really cool looking. It's bright, yet organic. Contrast from far away, yet very good looking close up.

I really like the mottled effect you added to the second one. I'm going to have to try that soon.

The Kraken here has got to be my favorite, the way you draw the reds back out of the black templar and also contrast with that ghostly blue. The dark spots on the limbs are killer too!
@melsminiloft Жыл бұрын
I am a big fan of the first color scheme even if is typical GW, probably because I love the color purple lol. I think combining the different paint schemes can be interesting too with darker purple or pink skin texture!

Have to admit, the "unknown" fleet actually has maybe the most organic and natural looking scheme. Yours in particular came our really well, while still staying very achievable for both beginners and long-time painters.

i like the statement "Similar to how drybrushed miniatures always will look drybrushed, it's the same with contrast" cause that is my thing why i don't want to overuse contrast or drybrushing, rather than as targeted tools
@D00M3R-SK8 Жыл бұрын
mixing of techniques is the way to go. by mixing techniques you trick the eye into thinking you are looking at a 300 hour show piece. also when it comes to dry brushing, a lot of the time people are just bad at it. it's one of those techniques that gets a bad rap, but this is why. chalky etc. when done well it can look amazing. Trov is right though. You can't just paint one tech, you have to mix them up. Using dry brushing, contrast and then traditional edge highlighting for example can look amazing (ofc you still have to do each step well, but mixing the tech is a great start)
@Cyd999 ай бұрын
Yes it’s really obvious I can’t just use contrast and dry brush.

These look great- I particularly liked your spots in the second model. I'm guessing that technique would be even better looking if the spots matched the armored carapace on it's back- so the small spots look like snaller scales of that carapace armor. Like scalemail for your alien horrors. I know the Tyranids don't use standard technology, but it'd be great to see one holding a severed Marine's arm with chainsword attached and using that as a weapon...

Trovarion Miniatures - I love the clever use of contrast as a blending agent on the leviathan demo. I went through to try to make a list of paints you used as you did the paint but ran into a couple quick questions which I am wondering if you can clarify for me? 1) You start with a spray of screaming skull. However, I notice it looks like you primed with black before this. Would priming with a rattle can of Chaos Black for this step work or did you use a particular shade of black for any reason? 2) AK Ivory - the best I can find for a Citadel "conversion" for this is actually screaming skull. Did you pick the ivory because it is different in shade to screaming skull or could I do my highlights with screaming skull and skip buying AK Ivory? 3) At one point when doing the teeth you mention that you hit the teeth with a "dark beige" but don't give the actual color - could you suggest a citadel color that would be close to whatever you use here? Thank you so much!!!!

did you thin all the contrast colours on the kraken scheme, or just the skeleton horde, please? I made a mistake and tried using neat skeleton horde, definitely not a good idea as it stains the higher areas a bit too much. I'm wondering if the snakebite leather shading should be done with thinned paint, too? also what about the red chitin, was the black thinned for this as well, please? I've not used the turquoises yet, so not sure if these need to be thinned either. I guess I should try them thinned first, and see if this is enough coverage.
