My hometown is in the prefecture where this mountain is located, and there was a very big explosion in 2011. It's an area that rarely snows all year round, but the next day everything was grey as if it had just snowed heavily! I remember how hard it was to clean the car so it wouldn't get scraped and scratched. As someone has already mentioned, it's a beautiful place with stars:)

The people who disliked it probably came up with stupid reasons like, video quality too low, too hazy, wasn't loud enough, not a dark enough night, look at all that CO2 emission, probably killed some animals... etcetera. You never know what stupid reasons people come up with considering how many idiots there are out there. And some people just can't consider the good things about something when there's even the slightest negative aspect about it. They're just like "If it's not perfect, it's trash", I can't stand those kind of people.

I'm an astronomer, I also liked the meteor he caught on first seconds. I made some calculations. By stars position I can tell the footage was shot towards North, slightly to the East at about 1:30 AM. Camera was exactly 10km from the volcano (according to 30 seconds of sound delay) The camera+lens combination has field of view of 33 degrees, probably 50mm lens on full frame camera. From all this information and from meteor's angle, with some trigonometry, I can tell it's most probably from Delta Leonids meteor shower. So it's just a small sand-grain size particle that broke off Tempel-Tuttle comet about 450-530 years ago and freaking slammed into our atmosphere near erupting volcano )

The cameraman was 10 kilometers away from the volcano (6.2 miles in bald eagle units) and yet we have such an amazing view on the stars and the volcano... this is beautiful.

The volcano is approximately 10.5 km from the camera, if we use 340 meters per second for the velocity of sound and (66-35) = 31 seconds between the eruption and the sound. distance = velocity * time = 340 * 31 = 10540 meters

Isn't Japan beautiful? I lived in Japan for 10 years. Over four years not too far from that volcano. Okinawa is even better. I lived there for 6 years. My beautiful island. If you ever get the chance to visit, do it. You won't regret it.

I think everyone should take a trip to somewhere where there is little to no light pollution and take a look at your place in the universe. Night sky without city lights blocking it is a beautiful thing to see
