With the exception (arguable) of the dynamite... Modern dynamite isn't the same as "Nobelian Dynamite" in the vid'... That's a nitro-cellulose mixture... aka "Nitroglycerine in a cellulose matrix" which DOES stabilize it some... BUT over time, and humidity variations, it will "sweat" the nitroglycerine back into dangerous quantities... making it both unstable and unreliable... This stuff performed well because they probably manufacture small amounts on-site, so it stays fresh... AND (probably justified as "training purposes") it gets disposed of regularly... There's a historical account, in WWI (if I recall correctly, though may have been WWII)... Where the Allies were smuggling explosives past enemy lines, and they'd come up with a "Binary Explosive" which they devised to ship as "Compound A" labelled "Biscuit Mix" and "Compound B" in some other container, similarly mislabelled... SO the story goes, that the smugglers were stopped by border patrols and searched, and after some argument, the patrol protested the Biscuit Mix, and the smugglers just shrugged and made biscuits out of it, sharing some of said biscuits with the patrolling soldiers (depending on the version you get to hear)... Accounts of the quality of the biscuits also vary somewhat, but the fact that they COULD conceivably make actual biscuits with the stuff and NOT blow anything up or die from eating it is pretty solid evidence of the shear ingenuity that has gone into some modern explosive compounds... haha ;o)

Different explosives are useful for particular purposes. A slower explosive such as TNT is good for "pushing" dirt or cutting timber. A fast explosive such as C4 is better for producing a quick "shock" for shattering concrete and cutting steel. At least, that's what I remember from the demo classes I took about 25 years ago in the Marines.

So in the firearms/sport-shooting trade, we have something called a "Hang-Fire", this is where a primer is struck but fails to go off immediately and can take up to a few seconds to go off (seldom happens). Misfires happen all the time, and most often professional shooters will extract the faulty round quickly, rechamber another and continue the COF. We would then retrieve the round after the COF has been completed. I've only ever seen one misfire, that was extracted which then turned into a hang-fire and activated once on the ground, nobody was injured. My test is to see what type of damage that could do to someone's hand or unprotected part of your body should you pick it up and/or have it go off near you. Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated. :D

@chrisswindell7704
@chrisswindell7704 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think it would be as exciting as you think. Bullets (even .50cal) actually have very little mass. If they don’t penetrate, their energy is dispersed across the plate and they simply don’t have the energy to do much to a circa 90kg body armoured human.
@TesticleStealer
@TesticleStealer Жыл бұрын
@@chrisswindell7704 I don’t think I worded this in the way that actually says what I meant, what I meant from that was to watch the bullet get caught in a soft armor vest but get a side view of the armor getting pushed into the rib cage and see if it’s survivable and if it is then what calibers are safe and which ones still carry enough energy to cause fatal levels of internal bleeding.

12:17 I love how you can see the blast wave reflect off the ground. This is the reason nuclear bombs form mushroom clouds; the shockwave reflects off the ground and pushes back against the original wave front, causing a mach stem to form. You guys should try to recreate miniature mushroom clouds.... just raise your explosives a foot or 2 off the ground..

they form mushroom clouds b/c the fireball is buoyant. Mach stem is unrelated.

Rdx or c4 burns at 26,000 Det cord at 21,000 Tnt at 12,000 The comp b was about 20,000 Tnt pushes better. So if you want to tip over one end and use c4 to cut it loose. Like blowing a bridge support. We just used caps and det cord to set it off, but now there are caps on non electric cord. It's like a very weak det cord. There are delays available also, so you can cut both ends and then push it over a quarter second later so the bridge falls.

Growing up I was fortunate enough to see what dynamite can do. My grandpa and dad had a small plumbing, excavation, blasting business. All the fun times blowing up rock! I also remember farmers coming to my grandparents house and buying sticks of dynamite. No special paperwork or permits needed, it was definitely different back then. One job they had in Oregon was to blast a big ol foundation hole for a microwave tower near Lagrande, OR. We forgot blasting caps to set of the charge, Oops! Thank fully I had my 20 gauge shotgun 😊and set of the entire charge shooting at a stick of dynamite with det cord running to the main charge. What a great childhood! Maybe a show about shooting dynamite with a shotgun? It has to be lead shot, none of the other crap that is around today. Because I was exposed to all of this as a young boy, I became a 12Bravo COMBAT ENGINEER!
