Anyone else think the finally chunk was a piece of the steel plate breaking off? We were wondering that while editing. It’s sometimes hard to see details on the smaller camera screens while shooting.

I think it was part of the plate. Kind of like drifting a hole while blacksmithing an axe head . You'll get what we call a plug that will push out the bottom. Material has to go somewhere. Difference is you're cold forging with a 50 cal. Lol

Still can't get over how amazing this footage is. Fantastic. Another idea: see what it looks like shooting big steel cable. Demo Ranch did a video shooting an elevator cable. I think it was a few inches wide. It's interesting because the bullets squeeze their way into the spaces between each cable strand, almost like they're liquid. This would be amazing to see in high speed.

Awesome vid - if I wasn't convinced on the need for an anti-spalling coating on hard armor before, I am now. I'm thinking that there was one flaw in that with each shot, the coating was being separated from the armor and thus allowing the spalling to spread further, hence the reason we saw the shotgun slug squirt out the edges - can't help but wonder if the slug would have performed differently on a virgin plate? Still, the coating did it's job beautifully - again, I'm sold.

Great pics! Thought you might like to know: the silver paint on the tips of your 50BMG indicate the type of bullet it is. Online info says that silver indicates armor piercing incendiary. WW2 50 BMG bullets had a hardened steel core that I’ve heard could penetrate an inch of steel. That accounts for all the fireworks, etc.

The whole sequence around 1:43 is fascinating. The pressure wave in front of the bullet. The turbulent gas behind it, some of it flashing. Bullet is out of frame even before the slide has moved... a centimeter. Awesome shot.
