At 53, I wish I'd broken free from the 70hour+ work week years ago. I'm living life on my own terms, and it's a game-changer. No more feeling trapped or stuck in a routine that wasn't for me. I'm finally doing what makes me happy and fulfilled.

Anything that can be taken away isn't truly secure. That's why I don't buy into the idea of financial security within the existing system. Saving money for a distant future isn't a reliable plan to me; I'm focused on creating freedom and living life on my own terms.

My grandfather used to own a small cardboard manufacturing plant back in the 80s. It operated until 2009. I have seen him work pretty much anytime I see him. But his workers (about 10 of them) used to leave after 6PM.. Occasionally, my grandmother used to shout at him for working all alone until late night without a helper. Her take was he could've asked one of the workers to stay back. He politely said, "we own this business in our backyard, hence I have to work and I do so willingly. But the workers, they work for daily wages, for a fixed time. We cannot expect them to stay back for nothing." Also, he wouldn't permit any overtime by his employees. He would simply say, "I cannot pay you folks more than 10 rupees and hour in over time and to be honest, don't stay back and waste your time here for that amount. It simply isn't worth it. Go home, check on what your wives have prepared for dinner, check what your kids are studying ." That's far more important. I mean, he said this in his typical village style accent.

@@tarunaneja thanks bro.. the fun part is, if you ask him what work life balance and employee right is, he wouldn't even know what it is as a definition. The only problem was that it was a low margin business. He was selling a sweet box for 1.75 rupees in 2002. So after paying all 10 of his employees, he would take a salary for himself (as he doubles down as a worker and as a delivery driver delivering the boxes in his car as he couldn't afford commercial transportation) which was 25 to 35% more than the median salary of his workers and he also used to take some portion of the profits, rest he used to put away for reinvest in the business and as rainy day funds.. over all, as a business owner, he still took only 3 times more than his average worker. He ate with his workers and the "board meetings" used to take place on the lunch table. It was a shame he had to close down the business in 2009..

One thing which no one is talking about is the nature of the work. When these Chairmen, CEOs and even politicians talk about working 15-18 hrs a week it is mostly a lie. Even on the odd days they do spend that many hours at "work", what exactly are they doing? Is the L&T chairman coding or actually building something? No. People at these levels spend most of their time attending events, seminars, conferences or meeting customers and a lot of time is spent just travelling between one place to another. At most they'll be attending some online calls where people working under them would be presenting them data which they would have worked on for days. Sure, they're responsible for making decisions but they get enough remuneration and time to do that effectively. The average employee does not. All work is not the same.

This problem of hours start from school. Everyone ask "how many hours you study? " And since I'm little bit smart at understanding things , and easily score above average marks and all , everyone started pushing me to study more and more , destroying my phone . And ever since that incident my interest in learning is gone . Now I just wanted a passing grade and nothing else and I'm an engineering student and now I can't learn anymore I'm just trapped in the rat race of how to pass without studying. My outdoor activities are lost . Even now I'm not studying and all. But this all started from the HOURS problem 😭 . People don't understand anyway seeing this video made a little hope in humanity. I know firsthand what it’s like to work long hours without benefits or care. While working at TCS, I was assigned to a project with a 24/7 shift cycle, but there were only four people to manage it. Even though we technically had around 20 days of annual leave, using it was nearly impossible. We requested additional team members to ease the workload, but instead, we were made to work over 12 hours most days. The justification? "If the managers are doing it, you should too." To make things worse, my shift changed every week-one week in the morning, the next in the evening, and then the night shift. The job was nothing like the description, and I hated it. The constant shift changes disrupted my sleep, gave me persistent headaches, and drained me physically. Eventually, I decided to get a medical checkup, and to my shock, my blood pressure was 185-at just 24 years old. That was the breaking point. I immediately took 15 days of medical leave and quit the project. Fortunately, I had developed a niche skill alongside my work, which allowed me to move to a better project while on the bench. I enjoyed my next assignment and later left TCS altogether. Now, I work on my own terms and truly enjoy what I do. The biggest lesson I learned is that in India, you are easily replaceable-unless you build a niche skill. Job security is an illusion unless you make yourself indispensable.

Nothing will change, until strict labour laws are implemented, The cause is everyone wants to do job in india and jobs are less, corporates taking advantage of high supply of workers and exploiting them, paying minimum salaries and expecting work from employees like machines, People should try other fields also like freelancing and starting small businesses and content creation and other fields like that and avoid working in corporates Most of channels cover and talk about Corporates in NCR or Bangalore only where salaries are 35k to 70k But there are other cities in india as well, and majority of cities are where the average salaries for employees are just 15-20k maximum even if you are top skilled and educated. And freshers even get 12-15k only NO ONE COVERS THESE , on Internet we see lowest salaries people talking about are 6-7Lpa But actually normal indian salary is just 1.5-3LPA And still they are made to work for these 50-70 hours

In my job in a service based organization the quality of software that is developed is very poor, and what the clients and architects that want "quick fixes" don't understand is that quick fixes are quick but will cause issues later (we call that technical debt). Most of the issues that come are due to a quick fix that was done years/months ago. Similar mindset is of the top level management they are looking at quick fixes to solve a systematically bigger issues, and the IT bubble is slowly bursting. Bigger clients are slowly moving away from these organizations and expanding their own operations with setting up new GDCs.

increasing salary will cause more inflation as human labour will be more expensive. that means you need to pay more for food delivery, more for restaurants, more for anything that involves human labour. it will be like western countries where the standard of living is definitely better, but living cost will be higher. middle class will still live paycheck to paycheck, without much finincial stability, but atleast the living standards will improve.

They have crony mindset . They just want more profits by exploitation of their current workers. Last 4 years their profits has increased 400% but there is no salary increment for current employees where inflation has increased drastically . The government and these buisinesses are involved in this exploitation in country . Government cutting off their taxes by telling country they will give more jobs good salary where all those reliefs are just going these corporates personal accounts and these polticians account through elections fund and satra !!

Very dissapointing to say they offer 10LPA for 5 years of rich experience in designing, rude behaviour and absolute zero sense how to talk to a candidate. High Unemployement rates give them freedom to define any work hours with any pay. And the high pressure in the job is inevitable in L&T. Thank god and universe you saved me from this. Ford and Tata Figured out 40 hours works bring most productivity a century ago. There is something called shifts. So L&T and Infosys can employee 2x the people. Misalignment of productivity, it’s like using CPU for GPU tasks. In my 20s, I have been in startups where it demands 60 hours work per week. I have had great learning and experience. But that was my personal interest. In 30s, I can never do that. Because I have to spend on my health and family.

Lnt is a major in the construction industry. There projects are for brigdes, dams, etc where engineers are employed. The project locations are also remote & work is executed 24/7. In those projects , while the workers are paid as per their hours served, Engineers & staff are doing atleast 12-14 hrs work 7 days a week. No laws cover these workers in india. And if you don't work you are out. Reasons 1. Low quality education. 2. High quantity of available fresher engineers at dirt cheap rates. 3. No hourly compensations 4. No strict laws for engineers & staff.
