Everyone loves Mike.... what a true gem of a human.. so much fun to be around and amazing company. Remember seeing them (CB) doing their act, just him and Archie plus their dj at the time in Bar M in Ibiza in the early 2000s - it was like 6pm or something, we were just walking passed, perhaps a practice set for other nights in that M franchise of bits across the island at the time - very few people in there maybe 15 or so of us... but fckin hell it was some of the funniest shit i have ever seen, still to this day no one else has anything like this act - hence 25 years i guess. They cross amazing party music, with 70s cabaret and stand up comedy and still had a level of cool to it that did not slip into cheesy.. yes the act was purposely cheesy with all those elements but you understood the satire/subversiveness of the act...I'd never seen anything which was the other side of the coin of what the early 2000s gave us in overly cool chin stroking club culture of that time.. much before before the big room festivals took over. Myself and my friendship group literally let them decide where our new year eve plans were for the next 5 years - "what are we doing for new years eve?" " well we go where ever the cuban brothers are playing" and you knew you could rely on them to choose a credible club night too and the rest of the acts on the bill would be top class and then the rest of the night would be fuckin amazing because they get people into such a happy party mood. I moved to New Zealand 2008 - and thank the big man above theres an outfit out there called Splore that Mike must have has some workings with in early days Minty.... they were a main stay at that festival and little off festival parties for years and every person I met that I knew would get it I told them if they didnt buy a ticket to go see them i would buy it for them and make sure they went - I think our Splore campsite group grew to around 150 at its peak in our late 20s early 30s and the whole weekend was about making sure the whole group was on the hill together for the Cuban Brothers set, not Soul II Soul, not Orbital, not Basement Jaxx, not Eryaka Badu . Cuban Brothers - that was the one that all of us needed to be together for - so many people thanked me for making them go see them as they said I wouldnt have even known to go see that and amongst all of those names and it was their favourite moment of the festival - it was everyone together in the group - bring it home singing all night long... I spent a night in an Auckland venue where ladies make their rent in fluorescent undergarments and plastic see through shoes with Mike and Kenny one night after an off festival show at Bobbys social club in Ponsonby - I didnt have the liver of those boys and had to tap out early but I was then envy of the splore whatsapp group that sunday morning.... The funniest thing was I'd seen this man on stage for years with a ~South American~ accent and then just chatting away with the man with his Scottish accent bent my head .. ha ha I hope it continues for many more years... amazing talent, but ultimately on stage or sat in a chair in a bar somewhere - why wouldn't you want to spend an evening with this guy. Cant help but smile in his company hey - genuine human stunner.

I was on the Gumball finnishing line on the port in Ibiza, the Cuban boys were playing next to the Greenpeace boat which was visiting at the same time as Gumball …couldn’t make it up & I thought it could not get any better so I left & then Tony Hawk was skateboarding down the road straight towards us & then two wooden tops/cops stopped Tony as they recognized him & ask for his autograph, the two cops never had a pen between them, Tony laughed & skated off…I’m guessing but I don’t think those cops were able to write any tickets or autographs that evening…
