when my now SIL started dating my brother, we would hang out pretty often, she’s my age and she made friends with my best friend, so we were kind of a trio for a while. we were all hanging out one day, and my best friend said we should share our baby name lists with eachother. i literally trust her with my entire heart and know she would never take a name from my list and use it as her own, so i agreed. welll, i didn’t know that my brothers gf couldn’t be trusted. one of the names i loved the most was ayla/ aila. i have loved it for as long as i can remember, probably at least 7 years. a couple years after we shared the lists, my SIL got pregnant. she said if the baby was a girl, she was gonna name it. ayla bc she “had always loved it.” when we shared lists, that name was not on hers, and she had more mainstream names like emma, abby, etc. i was livid but didn’t really say anything about it. i just kinda made a mental note that i shouldn’t trust her with info like that. baby ended up being a boy, and a few years later, her best friend ended up naming her baby isla lol. of course she doesn’t want to use a name so similar to her best friends baby name, so she begrudgingly scratched it off her list. that felt like sweet sweet karma to me 😂 i’m having a baby girl in 16 weeks, and you can guess what her name will be 😊 my husband loves it as well, and that’s what we’ve been calling her since we found out the gender. my SIL asks often about if we’ve decided on a name, and she probably knows that i’ll be using the name that was at the top of my list all those years ago
