You are lucky to have a “sewing room”…all I have is a sewing machine on a desk in my bedroom and a couple of plastic bins to store fabric and a few other containers for odds and ends. My ironing board is in the hallway and my cutting mat on the table….I truly envy anyone that can have such a well kept system, maybe in another life, I will have a she shed…..

Love this video. I’m particular about how my fabric is organized and I like the ideas you have here. Also it’s refreshing to see a stash that is not obscenely massive. I like that it’s all stored neatly in a half of your closet. 👏🏾

I'm glad you think my stash is not massive (because I'm sure there are lots of people who would think it's obscene). 😆

Such a cute little tiny stash.. my scraps are organised. I cut them into blocks, strips, and squares.

I was cheering you on when you cut the side bit off of the gold bag making piece. I do the same thing. It’s tidier and when I see It on the shelf I know what to expect. No surprises when you think it’s a full yard and there’s a chunk cut out. The middle boxes flipped upside down is brilliant. Makes use of what could be wasted space.

I shuttered when she cut it! I've experienced that if I do that, I regret it when I need just a bit more for a project - which I would have if I didn't cut it off! I would have folded it up to be able to make the fold for the stack.

@@Oontaka Completely understandable. I mainly work with scraps or smaller pieces so It works for me. I don’t mind sewing an extra bit on to make something work. Although It is very frustrating when a piece is less than an inch shorter than what I need. That being said I do not cut my basics like my white background fabrics on the bolt.

I need to do this and I like the simpleness of your groupings. I've seen others who cut down their "random pieces" to common square sizes but I do applique and fpp, as well as standard piecing, and so I have really random pieces. Thanks for sharing!!

Oh how I wish I was this organized! It would take years for me to get my stash in this type of order! I have decided I need to get it in better shape though and am changing my sorting. I get sucked into projects when I start organizing...no discipline! 🤣

I think my disorder needs your help lol. No some of it is organised and I'm working on the rest. Made some important decisions to eventually only have 3 sizes to use exactly like a quilt store 10 inch 5 inch squares and 2.5 inch strips. And I also make bags. If it's tiny it gets sewed up same week to make it bigger, big enough to become something useful. Everyone has their priorities and it's great to share ideas. I enjoyed the video and the cat 🐈. 🇦🇺💜🇺🇲💚❤🧵🪡👍

That's a tiny stash. I used to be rather controlled like you are but as I've gotten older, much more mellow. I do still embrace neat and organized though.

I do the same for my bits,fold the bits with a form so they stand up in my bin. The smaller ones go in the front the bigger ones to the back. I can see in a glance what I have.

All great tips for fabrics. How would someone organize pre-cuts (5.5" and 10")?
@matantequilting

I don't personally buy pre-cut fabric, but you could store them in whatever way works for you! On their own shelf? In bins? Anything goes!
