Ive been in the running world for 2 years and I agree 100% Im a freshman at a JUCO school and I run 7:40s-7:30s on easy days but my long runs are 6:30s-7:00 Its all about optmizeing your workout days I would rather rip 10xk at a hella fast pace then rip a fast "easy day" Its not a flex what the flex is Is getting faster and ripping good workouts and raceing good

Exactly too many people think you are supposed to gain fitness from easy days. The benefits of going slower on easy days vastly outweighs the risk of going fast.

You're without a doubt right and the way he presents it is stupid because in reality it's not recovery pace for him, it's an easy run, and there's a difference between the two. It also doesn't help that his audience is all slow highschoolers with bad coaches who are looking for advice with training.

Content creation in general is about presenting something eye-catching, which is a problem in a lot of fields where the important things are boring, like finance, like running training. Truth is almost every elite runner's training is very normal. Sure they all have their quirks and what not, but it's all just personal preference that has little to do with training effect. At the high level it mostly is about genetic talent, consistency and the ability to tweak training plans so it suits each indivadual better. But content consumers are about finding the secret sauce, 'if I do this one specific thing at a slightly different pace than everyone else, I will do so much better'. So there really isn't any point to debate any of the specifics, training and content are under completely different frameworks.

Imma have to agree w niko cuz if you're a true 8 guy in COLLEGE not hs then its okay to run faster on mileage because the training is more optimized to running fast and leaning more down. To say that high school distance athletes will go out and run 6 minutes in their recovery runs is way off cuz everyone knows their limits and range of paces from race to threshold to easy.
@GoingTheDistance_Running15 күн бұрын
Nah, easy, recovery whatever you want to call it are in principle not used to gain fitness. You look at top 8 guys they not doing this. A buddy of mine who is a 1:48 and another 1:49 guy runs 7:30 pace on there easy days. Also did you watch the video? There is a reason he takes long breaks in his runs everyday. Also ain’t no elite 8 guys watching his vids he panders to children. He is giving this advice to CHILDREN

I think his advice is rlly for elite runners in the 800 and he always specifies in his account that he runs the 400 and the 800, not sure if it’s a bad take from you but I feel like you’re kind of overthinking his advice
@GoingTheDistance_Running15 күн бұрын
Nah, his audience is primarily non elite high schoolers. He is setting them up for failure with this advice. I could care less if this actually works it’s that he is giving this advice to poor children with no guidance. Kids will get injured because of his video.

@@steveschultz3677I’m not trying to save the track world. I’m trying so save young easily influenced children from following his advice that recovery runs should be faster. The problem is not him but influencers giving advice to there impressionable audience that will do more harm than good.

I think this is a braindead take from you too. You’re nitpicking the difference between recovery and easy runs when for most people it’s the same thing. Most ppl don’t double in hs and he’s never claimed to be a distance runner he’s always marketed himself as a 4/8 guy. He also said easy pace should feel easy and for him maybe he feels okay pushing those paces as a low mileage and very talented athlete.
