Telling myself this at times also, believe it or not the better you get, you develop a bigger ego, that you should crush sessions etc.. running we should remind ourselves almost daily “back to ground zero” back to work. Remove that ego and just work

I skipped my long run today. Was supposed to be 30km - 10km easy, 10km at MP, 10km easy. No real excuse - just laziness. The fact that this video was the first thing I saw when I opened KZbin is a clear sign I need to subscribe (and stop skipping my long runs!)

Thank you Stephen. Very good to know that even the elite's don't smash every session. So humble and encouraging. You have helped me realize that when I have a "bad" session and feel deflated, I should embrace it as a positive part of the journey. Keep up the great work. Thanks again and good luck with your 2025 training.

I did not realize the half tights were only $32. That’s an unbelievable price for the quality of the tights. I remember paying $90 for Nike half tights, plus tax and shipping. Even if they lasted 1/3 of the volume of the Nike tights(which isn’t the case), at least I could switch up the style more often without sacrificing a week’s groceries. Ordering a pair now.

The year of race pace, love this! Gonna take the mantra that workouts should be hard and try to work my way up intelligently to push hard enough to failure. No reason I should be afraid of failed workouts setting ambitious goals. Injury free and pushing hard race pace in 2025!

I’m a 44 year old tile setter. 9 kids, tons of financial responsibilities. 3 weeks ago my back was so messed up I could barely walk. Been going to the dr, and pushing through with runs I’ve ran 65 miles in the last 2 weeks, and ran 10 miles today at 9:37 pace (mile). No excuses. LFG

I took a 17.5 mile long run today with 27 x 90 seconds and 90 seconds recovery. Reps meant to match or be slightly quicker than MP. I started well around 6:35 per rep but this dipped to 7:00 per mile pace by the end of them. Felt weak but at the same time positive. Getting back into things after suffering an injury and rebuilding my confidence. What is said in this video - that if the LR is tough, then it's what you need - that really helps to hear. Running's not meant to be easy after all.

I'm getting ready for my first full marathon this year. I can't tell you how happy I am to have found (and subscribed to) your channel to help me think about the different elements I can consider on my way to the big event(s) coming up this and the next years. You make it easy to follow and the whole design of your channel is just easily accessible and easy to follow. I do have to keep my km/m conversion table open in another tab (lol!).

Great timing on this video! I'm easing in to my first marathon plan after a minor injury and illness right before my plan was to start. Next week I'm doing 80-90% of the plan's mileage, and ignoring the 'marathon pace' part, just building up the miles before I add pace. I'll definitely be coming back to this video on a regular basis for your advice on long runs. Today was only 15k, but that pretty quickly gets up to 24-32k.

Great video!Thx! I finished the first week of the plan, and the long run went better than I expected😀. It's still hard for me to run at the pace I was capable of last year or two years ago, but slowly I'll get back! From week 2, I plan to start doing activation routines; I've never done anything before running... the warm-up was always the first 2-3 km. I have to fight with my brain 🤕 and start following 100% of what's written in your plan.

Great video! Do you have a video on how to increase weekly mileage without getting injured? I’m a newer runner trying to increase from 50-80k a week but seem to be getting small tweaks in my foot when I try to push my mileage (prob too quickly) which I don’t want to make worse and hence skip runs.

Great video again, thanks a lot! Ego shouldn't complain, but learn to embrace the experience of what it actually takes to run at raceday pace. I'm going to build up my longruns according your advice here and implement that figure too, #km@MP/week, that's a great idea 🙂! Maybe split it into MP and threshold pace, because I think threshold has it's own place in marathontraining.

Great video Stephen, thank you for very insightful advices! However, I wonder, how us less experience runner can determine what our race pace will be? I can have a goal or a "wish" of how fast would I like to run on a race day, but how do I actually know if my goal is realistic and feasible?

The Hamburg Marathon is in april if you're still looking for a nice race to sign up for. As for the long run, just did one of Jack Daniels' sessions with 4mi easy, 2 x 6mi marathon pace with a 1mi easy recovery and did a 2mi cooldown. I hate how I feel in the second marathon pace repeat, but know that it's just what I need, to be ready come race day. Even if it sucks, you're gaining those XP points.

Good point about training not meant to massage your ego. I woke up at half 4 this morning in the freezing cold for my 14 mile run. Nothing massages your ego less than frosty fingers and cold toes. Soothing it was not! Run itself was quite tough as it was definitely not a flat route and adding in some MP efforts along the way definitely felt like a slog. BUT. These are the runs that will get me to the start and finish line.

First marathon i got my longest long run up to 21 miles. But I have an ankle issue and I think these long runs didn't help and caused too much strain before the race. I'm running Manchester in April so going to try a different approach by running more weekly volume and shortening the long runs. What's your thoughts on splitting long runs up in same day? Like 10 in the morning and 8 on an evening? I understand it's not ideal but I don't have an ideal situation so need to work around it.

For someone who has just ran 1:28 for the half and is hoping to break 3 hours for the marathon in Cork on the June bank holiday, what is the best approach to step up the mileage and maintain or improve the pace for the marathon.
