I was wondering how anyone could fall for these kinds of schemes. Then I remembered that, back in elementary school, we used to regularly sell cookies and candy and shit for the school--i.e., beg family, friends, and neighbors to buy these treats--with the hopes of selling enough to either 1.) sell the most, or 2.) sell enough to get some cool prize from a catalog. I don't know if schoolchildren did this everywhere, but as someone who, years later, tried to sell MLM knives one summer out of pure desperation, I can say it's the exact same process.

I come via Marco's channel. The short answer is that you are presented with the opportunity by someone you know (and trust, bonus points if you hold them dear) in a moment of vulnerability. Then you get loved bombed and hyped with toxic positivity. And done, you're in. It fills in the need for money and community with the illusion of both.

John Locke lived 100 years before the Founding Fathers, & he by the time they had read his book, he was primarily remembered for the concepts of the "tabula rasa" representing the blank slate of naivety & promise that we are born with, as well as his adaptation of that concept into the emerging theory of the "Social Contract" that comprises the rules that are imposed upon all of us born into society, in exchange for our protection from the primitive violence of Nature as was described by monarchy apologist Thomas Hobbes in his book, Leviathan. These are 2 of the cornerstones of the philosophical strand that would be further developed & named "Republicanism" a century later by Edmund Burke, as an ideology for people who shared his outrage about the Execution of the King of France & overthrow of the monarchy in favor of its replacement with democracy. Of course, during the past 200 years, the relatively reasonable ideals which Burke had written have metastisized, escalated in extremity until now that the original form has been renamed "classical republicanism" to make room for the modern Republicans whose ideology is more appropriately described as "ultranationalist neofascist reactionary authoritarianism", much like the degradation of "classical liberalism" into "neo-liberal austerity + platitudes + performative identity politics".

@averyharley21978 ай бұрын
It is abundantly clear that the chatter age skews low, based on how hard it is for some of them to understand the difference between basic things like scummy practices vs. illegal behavior. As well as what actually constitutes for the definition of the bad words they've heard, like MLMs vs. Ponzi Schemes. Anyone who's searched, paid for, and used any form of insurance, especially health/auto insurance, knows that yes it sucks the way it works, but not having it is realistically not a viable option for the long term. Also that there is a difference between the insurance product, the insuring company, and the agents/brokerage companies that also sell on behalf of the insuring companies. Mind you, all three of those things have inherent problems, but some are worse than others.

what makes the insurance sales mlm's is that some actually operate on similar models with 2 sets of businesses a mlm recruiting and sending revenue upstream and the salespeople being screwed. one company that was looking to recruit me, had my "manager" make % off every sale I would do and the guy above him gets a %on the total he collected and so on. with the idea being eventually I build a team of people. so it works as one at its core with stubs that are "ligament" but exploited as they are essentially "harvested" for their social connections, most of the time you will sell to family friends extra, then stall out. Then the mlm manager guy ropes in a few more to get more sales.
