Really good video. I am from IT (DevOps) and I had offers from both California (USA) and Berlin (Germany) back in 2015. So happy I've done my homework, Green Card research and ended up in Berlin. And Bharat, as you said I got my Niederlassungserlaubnis (Permanent residence permit) in exactly 21 month and 6 days as I arrived. I totally agree with you that once you are a good member of society, pay your taxes, learn and respect local language and culture... you are not supposed to wait 168 years as these good Indian peeople. Germany is a great place to live, raise kids and retire.

Actually - the high school is pretty great. … German high schoolers can leave campus between classes- unlike USA, where we are treated like kids and shut in all day -it’s more like college from age 15… more options for varying art classes AND- there is no drinking age. So people mature faster. And have less trouble with binge drinking. (I was exchange student)…

Bruh no nation in this world welcomes foreigners than US. US is the comfort zone. Germany is great but its really hard to adapt. The American dream is never a lie, It's a destination which is hard to get to. Thats why it's called a dream, if you manage to make to the top 10% of the society it's far better than Germany or else it's as same as Germany. The reason is both countries offers different things.You need to figure out what you want and what countries offer and prioritise. If you have shitload of money and also has more interest to live in US. It's better.

I just have 1 qs. Number of people moving from US to Germany is less than 1000/year. But number of Germans moving to USA is about 15000… So migration from Germany to US is 15 times higher with 1/4th the population… Can you please tell us why this huge disparity? No 1 country for migration for Germans is Switzerland followed closely by USA. If US was so bad why would Germans in such large numbers want to move to there?

Let me start off by saying great job with the video, top notch editing and well researched. I have lived in the US for multiple years, high school, undergrad and I worked as a mechanical engineer for a short while before I had to move Germany. I have been here for just under 2 years so I think I am in a fairly good position to have an educated opinion on this topic. While most of what you said in this video is true, it only portrays half the picture. For example, you mentioned about the average debt among the US population, this is misleading because that data is skewed by the general populace, most of whom do not have the right qualifcations to land decent jobs. Most of your audience however intend to go for higer education in STEM fields and in all likelihood will have absolutely no issues getting high paying jobs. You failed to mention that the richest ethnic group in the US are Indian Americans not whites as most people assume. This is primarily due to the fact that more Indians than any other race go into STEM fields and end up earning a lot more. In the US if you choose your major correctly, you will have no problem living a good life. From my experience, having done my mechanical engineering from an average university, none of my classmates, be it American or international, had any troubles finding jobs and the pay is definitely the icing on the cake. When it comes to college tuition though, there is obviously no match between the two. Germany wins hands down and going to the US is probably not recommended if you have to sell a kidney to afford it. However, if making money and living a "rich" life is your goal, there really is no substitute for the US. In tech fields getting a 90k-100k+ USD annual salary is fairly common even with less than 3 years of experience. A good friend of mine with a degree in chemical engineering landed a 105K salary straight out of university at the age of 21 (no Masters). Whereas in Germany you'd be hardpressed to find a job paying that kind of money with such minimal work experience and even if you do, you lose a huge chunk to taxes. Granted that Germany makes very good use of the tax money and you get plenty of benefits, but in my opinion, its still not enough to make up for the kind of life you can afford with a high paying STEM job back in the US. Ofcourse you can live a "comfortable" life in Germany but you'd probably be renting a small apartment and driving a small car for a very long time before ever being able to afford a tiny house. Your purchasing power (ability to buy stuff in relation to your income) will be way higher in the US than in Germany. With regards to health care, Germany again wins hands down. Having said that, most decent jobs in the US like the one I had provide health insurance. So if you land a job in the STEM field, rest assured that your health insurance will be covered by the employer but I still think that the German health care system is more transparent, cheaper and much more functional. As far as the crime rate goes, Germany does have a lower crime rate on paper. And you can walk around late at night without having to watch your back. That said, I have never been a victim or witnessed any crime during my 9 year stay in the US, its just hyped up by the media. However, I had my very nice and fairly expensive mountain bike stolen within 4 months of arrival in Germany. I locked the bike by the rear wheel to a pole and went to the gym and when I came back I found only the rear wheel still locked to the pole while the rest of the bike was gone. Apparently they put that good German engineering to use lol. So in my opinion they both have their pros and cons. If you can afford it without being much of a burden to your parents, I would suggest going to the US especially if you want to do a Masters in a STEM field, the returns are certainly worth it. Otherwise Germany is also a very good choice. Tuition fee is non existent and you'll live a decent, high quality life but you'll struggle to afford anything fancy.

Your knowledge of stem field is very backdated. Urban planning makes taxes Higher in Europe, North america does worst job in this department. And what do you mean by quality of life? Owning a car or two a large house with white picket fence? Sorry to say now the definition has changed. Also someone who believes Americans crime rate is over hyped by media, makes me doubt all of your claims, even some of it maybe true. All the REAL Americans( not new migrants) I know never say the crime is overhyped. And you are comparing bycycle stealing with mass shooting, please Atleast don't pretend to be unbiased. How can a country be good for STEM work experience, with no manufacturing sector, a country that solely depends on shell oils. Things are only different in IT. Btw are you planning to move back? And get a green card maybe. Usa is a country that depends on war for its economy, and they did a grave mistake thinking china as iraq. Now Wait and see how China and Russia crumbles USD reserve of the World through Belt and Road initiative, and US is in full panic mode, because they know what's coming, so please move back zo USA so that such things you can experience first hand, good luck to all Indian immigrants in USA.
@mdsouz4
@mdsouz4 2 жыл бұрын
@@killerinstinctwithringgene713 Lol looks like my entire comment struck a personal chord with you, hence the ad hominems. You can doubt whatever claim I made, its not my business to prove anything. But you need to realize that the US is an incredibly large country and in some cities and states the crime rates are even lower than the crime rates in Germany. On the whole, ofcourse Germany is safer, but the chances of you being a victim of a crime is still pretty low. The fact that people think they'll get shot everytime they step out of the house is ridiculous. Also, if you think that the US doesn't have a manufacturing sector you really need to educate yourself. I am in the final stages of obtaining an EU citizenship (Portuguese) and I should have it within a couple of months so if anything, I should be more biased towards the EU and Germany. But I am speaking from my personal experience of having lived and worked in the two countries.

@@mdsouz4 I don't live neither in US nor in Germany, so it should not, but clearly your attempt to paint a bigger picture failed, when I started adding pieces to the puzzle. Only fools claim you may get shot when you get out of your house in US. But when it happens to you it's 100%. What do USA manufacture? Other than printing dollars? Germany China Japan has hard wealth, US only prints money. This has worked out till date, but look at BRI, it's whole purpose is to dump dollars as a reserve currency, why do you think US leaders whine so much these days in full panic mode? Now you may say some people manufacturs some stuff in US too, absolutely, but in comparison to China Germany even Philippines Vietnam US is nowhere near. Tell me one American company that dominates field of Renewable sector around the world? Just look at German companies in this sector. Ofcourse Many remote places will have close to zero crime rate, but just try go and live in a village in Montana or as such, you will see. But why poor Portugal citizenship, not glorious Green Card, I wonder!

I recently moved to Germany after doing my Master's in USA, believing the points mentioned in this video. However, I think you are not showing the viewers the full picture. I have observed the following things in Germany: 1. Germany is a good destination for people who major in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering etc because the salaries in USA and Germany is more or less the same for these majors . But for people who major in computer science, USA is the better option mainly because of the insane salaries ( roughly 2-3x more than salaries in Germany ) and the abundance of jobs. 2. All the giants like Google, Facebook etc. do their major hiring in USA, all the top-notch positions are in USA not Germany. There is no other way around it. Yes, the FAANG companies have offices here but they are very small. Every one will realize that after a certain point and will be drawn towards USA. 3. I have talked to local Germans and some Indian students who are studying here, some are not happy in Germany mainly due to this country's resistance to modernization ( websites are a joke here! ), insane taxes even for lower salary brackets ( compare paying 30% taxes on 120,000 gross in USA and ~32% on 36,000 gross in Germany ) and the bureaucracy ( these people do love to take their time! ). 4. In Germany you cannot buy a house and a car that easily simply because you don't earn that much in your initial years. Salary increase is very slow. Mostly you will be renting for a long time. 5. The paper work is just insane, in some cases the bureaucracy just lacks common sense. a. I do not understand why some banks require a residence permit to open a checking account when I have my anmeldung, tax ID and work contract. If you have a good answer do tell :) b. I tried to get the mensa card at my University. For proof of employment I showed my contract but that was not accepted, they wanted an extra document stating I am an university employee. I do not understand how my work contract does not prove my employment. ( Even my German colleague was left confused! ) c. It took me 3 months to get my pay roll started ( That is not a good experience! ), the major bottleneck was the anmeldung. The foreign services in small cities are pathetic. It is better if you go to big cities places like Bonn, Cologne, Berlin, Frankfurt. 6. Germans are not that flexible to outside cultures. Yes, I agree that you have to learn German and I am putting efforts to do so but I do not appreciate getting subtly reminded " We Germans are like this and we will not change " ( some XYZ German did tell me that! ). That is no way to treat someone who is trying to learn and adapt to your culture. And racism is everywhere, Germany is no exception. 7. Many things feel old fashioned and outdated in Germany. There is some serious catch-up to do with USA. 8. Public transport is old, expensive and good luck finding the correct ticket for your journey ( These words were from my German roommate :) ). You will find yourself scratching your head more often. Germans are not that efficient This post is not meant to be a bashing of this video but I would appreciate your thoughts on these points. Maybe this will help people more in deciding which country is better for their situation. But, I would like to point out that USA is inevitable when it comes to getting top-notch jobs in software and R&D, dealing with the immigration is an another story :). There is good and bad to everything.

People don't buy cars or house in Germany because it's different urban setting. In USA you need car even for going to groceries. Germany's Cities are walkable, then why people will buy cars ! If they need it they can rent it. Since renting is much cheaper in Germany people rent different Appartment, if required they can easily relocate. Houses will much costlier, because materials used are much more insulating and hence costly, it's not because people who are poor.

Nice video Bharath. But from my experience, I would say that America is for dream winners and not for people who want to simply continue to live the same way but in another nation. If you have a big dream and are willing to work very hard for it, then USA is the only place where the returns are highest. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, HP etc are all living examples of starting small (in garage) and growing to become one of the best in the world.

Thank YOU Bharat for making this video!🙏 Just the other day I had seen Parth Vijayvargiya's video - cannot express in words how confusing it got for me. It's a blessing that KZbinrs like yourself create such eye opening content. Otherwise I'd have fallen for the bullshittery and made decisions that'd come after me in the future. 🎈 America is a lot of things but not a place anyone should go and raise their family - it's just a lie of unfulfilled promises and a place that doesn't even recognise foreigners as humans. Instead, very casually the word 'Alien' is used for whoever not holding the American passport. Thankfully, with the video I've become aware of the opportunity that I have with Germany. Looking forward to come there someday and meet you in person. Much love to you and Alina bhabhi! 💪

Although I respect your opinion on Germany But really hate it when you over jinx about US. It's so easy to forget that US has more than 50-100 universities which make it to the top 100 best in the world. American education cannot be compared to any , For quick bucks U.S is great ! Also Ivy leagues like Harward and Stanford avail full tuition coverage and expenses for the people who get enrolled . Although I am inclined towards studying in Europe but I would never look down on any country plus U.S is known for it's comeback. I just hope we make this world a better place to study and stop being judgemental , everyone got a choice. Stop the hate P.S If you get an admit in any Ivy league, just go for it !

@@killerinstinctwithringgene713 if it was a business I don't see many students become millionaire like they do in U.S (Although I know probability is low) , I don't see them working for Google or Facebook. However I'm only talking about Ivy leagues like Harward , Stanford MIT etc. I know other universities are sell-out. But imagine if someone is a top notch student excelling in his life , instead of going to Europe he can go to those universities which only caters the best in the world. Yes I'm only talking about 1% who actually make it

Liked this documentary Bharat. It was well researched, informational and factual. US by no means is the best country to live. True, people talk of wanting to "live the American life" but that noway makes it the best country. It doesn't even come in the top 10 of the most livable countries. Germany, or for that matter other developed countries much better life. I think people only look at the dollars when they say that, not the overall aspect of what makes a better life.

I can vouch for everything Bharat has said here being a person who has moved from INDIA to UAE to US. Well researched and great video. US should not be a first choice for studies and settling down. There is another side to US which everyone down plays. Like Bharat mentions, you don’t want to gamble your life wanting to come to US. Green Card backlogs are insane and Work Visa is Lottery which does not make any sense!

Yeah bro.. I had decided to do a PhD in US early this year, sorted out colleges n all..but backed down after calculating the amount of money(loan) that I would need to borrow from the bank. As an only child and belonging from a middle to lower income family I just cant put that much financial burden on my parents. I really wanted to ask, is it true that Germany only accepts the best of the best students? Like I have heard from many people that Germany only accepts people with stellar track records and/or students with highly influential recommendations.! (Is it true?) I've finished my master's from a tier 3 college with around 69%, so I really felt like I'm not eligible enough for German courses. Should I drop study abroad plans? Do Germany provide lab rotations like US? I'm so confused by all the conflicting information and opinions. Even started learning German, but dropped after a few months due to all these factors.
