PSY's company is probably the only company on the top of my head that let's the artist be who they want to be and let their artists do the music they want to do. Mamamoo's company sucks. HYBE sucks. JYP, SM, YG; CUBE, Starship. They all suck. Dreamcatchers company might not seem bad but they def do not let their idols do whatever. Pledis, FNC, Woollim, Source music. NONE of these are good. When it comes to the legal pressures and the treatment from the companies, things have definitely gotten a lot better over the years (restriction, slave contracts, abuse, etc.). However, when it comes to social pressures and expectations from audiences, things are getting worse. Competition is getting intense as kpop gets more famous and more try to make it to the top, so they are all trying to become the best singers, best dancers, and best looking. The result is malnutrition, poor health, lack of sleep, injuries, and mass bullying if you don't keep up. Sure, there are plenty of people who can say that they aren't the ones telling these idols to look a certain way and do certain things, but actions speak louder than words. By only consuming content and supporting the most beautiful, the best singers, and the best dancers, you are indirectly showing all idols that only the best of the best will make it and all others will fail. And their response is to put themselves under these conditions in order to satisfy you, the general public. It is sadly ingrained in all aspects of the global music industry, but we can see the horrible results exposed more often in kpop because of how socially present the idols are versus western artists that are better at hiding it.

Please note this isn’t all companies and all idols! Sadly enough go through this. It’s not right and it is unhealthy 100%, and is one reason why fans are so ‘obsessed’ bc we know their struggles and want to support them and let them know it was all worth it. The companies since the dark side has been exposed has improved their environments, facilities, treatment and contracts, but it’s still not too good. I was a trainee at a company at one point (I can’t say which one bc I signed a contract to keep it anonymous and bc I quit bc of the treatment) but the company was abusive mainly verbally, and was very strict with what you can and can’t do, at one point the took our phones to check we’re focusing on our training and not getting distracted by what they called it ‘irrelevant topics’. We were weighed every week, and shamed if we didn’t meet their expectations. Some of our classes were split by gender so you weren’t again distracted, and you were shouted at if you failed at something even something so simple. It wasn’t a nice environment to be in and I’m glad I quit, my fame, if I got it, wouldn’t have been worth it. I have complete respects for my idols and every idol. And if you’ve seen my comments before, you’ll know I’m not a fan of people comparing idols and groups bc they’re all talented specially if they want to get into this industry!. Kpop isn’t rainbows and sunshines, and the industry in total has a long way to go for equal and fair treatment!.

Like yeah there's some truth to the others, but this one was just pulled out of his ass 💀 Kpop idols literally interact and get together each year for award shows. Also, did he forget ISAC (Idol Star Athletic Championship) is a thing?? Besides competing in sports, it's a way Kpop idols interact and befriend each other. Also, the way he's using Sulli's situation doesn't sit right with me 😕. As a MeU, it seems like he's weaponizing her passing to push a distorted/dramatized narrative. Yes Kpop idols go through so much, but the situations he picked out are also extreme/rare cases. It's also stuff that Kpop fans have spoken out against. You can go on Twitter right now, and find a trending tag, asking for better treatment of a Kpop idol/group.

The pressure towards kpop idols (or any celebrity really) is the same in korea as it is in the rest of the world. Every country has its own beauty standards. Ive heard many americans shame kpop idols for looking too 'girly' or 'fake'. Similar to how korea has their own toxic beauty standard. This isnt a problem that should only be fixed in south korea, but in the rest of the world as well. There's better videos that describe this side of the music industry and clarify that not all of it is bad. But also go more in depth on how terrible the bad parts really are. My favorite artist is Jonghyun who died in 2017 and his company was mostly to blame. He had been open abt his mental health from the start, in 2008 when he debuted with SHINee. But the company took no action and he ended up taking his own life due to the pressure of everything. Sulli was a friend of his as well and a couple weeks after she took her life, Goo Hara, her best friend, took hers as well.

Some companies are more notorious for treating their artists like shit but they’re not all like that I think the main issue facing kpop idols till this day is lack of privacy and being restricted by fans in their dating life a lot of these artists try their best to keep it all hidden and to not be photographed with someone of the opposite sex they could be out with a family member or friend and people automatically assume they are dating and Korean fans are more ruthless then international fans when it comes to this and then they and their loved ones are harassed non stop until the issue is addressed by the company

There are lots of good companies and idols these days have a lot more freedom. If you guys really want to learn about the kpop industry there are some ex idols that have videos on youtube speaking on trainee and idol life
@andrazosim38002 жыл бұрын
That video is quite dramatic. Some of the things he says aren't necessarily the complete truth, and he's making it seem more harsh for bigger reactions from viewers. For example, "cannot be friends with the opposite sex", that's BS. It is allowed, but idols tend to avoid interaction with the opposite gender due to insane fans who hate on them for the smallest reasons. True, a large proportion of their life is controlled by their agency, however its not the same for every idol, and its not the same for as long as their contract goes. Dating, for example, tends to be banned for trainees and rookie groups, however once they pass that beginning stage, their restrictions are not as harsh.

Some are not rich enough or famous to risk controversy like dating etc ..idols are allowed to date, they are allowed to have their own house, and go to see their families (during vacation periods like any other jobs) company just pretend they can’t so some toxic fan won’t get jealous and they don’t risk to loose money cause Korea is really conservative. But it’s slowly changing.

kpop is just a dark entertainment industry, the idols are products sold to consumers. They must then meet consumers' standards otherwise no one will consume the products. Plastic surgeries are the norm like going to the toilet, if you are tan-skinned one must brighten your skin for the industry. When the life expectancy of the products expires another product needs to be made. The same fans supporting the idols are the same reason they take their own lives. I used to love kpop but at some point, I felt like I'm in a toxic environment and I need peace. Honestly most of it is true except the you can't be friend with someone from another company " at least in the past a lot of groupe were friends" now it's all buisness (it's not the idols fault it's their agency) but Kpop became more & more toxic with time back then even if they already have some of this toxic rules at least it was less worse than today. Jonghyun from Shinee was the first one to commit suicide & it was a little wake up call in the Country because everyone knew him he was part of one of the legendary pilar of Kpop groupe for so long they were well respect & still are but it was too much for him & mental health have start to become more important now in the industry since he died, it's sad to see that someone has to die before mental health could be take seriously. Then Sulli who was friend with him came later like you have see in this video & then Go Hara who was a friend of Both & was abuse by her boyfriend & bullied on social media too.... Now the Fandom are so much more Toxic than before too & guess who've the two most Toxic ones..... But the agency do nothing about it & sadely more you have fans more toxic one you can get ... & it's a fact they are toxic with all other fandom for nothing & even between them, again back then even if toxic fans have always existed , even for big groupes it was not like that

This is such a bad video. Like sure some of it are true but to generalize such a big industry, sub culture and culture itself from sk is such a horrible thing. First of all, that man doesn't knoe anything about the kpop industry and how it operates. Like sure most of these are true but most of the things he said are all basically applied to the celebrity industry. There are good companies out there and it is giving such a bad rep to the idols and making it seem like they are all puppets when in fact most of these idols are rebels against companies, some of which their own. There are good companies who allows freedom both artistically and in work and life in general. I don't think that listening to a man who probably doesn't even know or listen to kpop is a good decision. Let alone a man who doesn't know how sk works in terms of the celebrity industry.

@@solin3180 yes it os toxic I'm not saying it isn't but he is in fact generalizing as the video sounds like THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY is this hell hole. I'm not saying starving yourself, obsessive fans and a whole lot more bad things are fine to deal with but those people who became idols chose that. It would be stupid and naive of them to enter an industry thinking these things won't come along. I'm just saying that it does seem a bit ignorant and unfair, if ur gonna have a video for educational purposes or shedding light on something then be fair and list down everything...good and bad. There are companies out there who are not as big as others who handles their idols well, what about them then? They're branded as toxic companies just bc some person who probably didn't even researched well enough on the matter has decided that the ENTIRE INDUSTRY is bad. Are u gonna call a community bad just because 10 people decided to steal a bank? No, right? A crappy example but just give that a thought.
