That's an opinion. FIrst, you can't put everyone's mystery boxes in the same category. I am not into mystery boxes at all, but many are a gamble, and that's actually the appeal to why most people like them. It's a lottery, and look how much money people spend on the lottery or at Vegas casinos. I actually was in communication with the winner of Bry's AF 15 that he included in one of his boxes. That's a pretty good score.

It's just a bad idea to gamble. In my early modern collecting, I bought some monthly mystery boxes from a Canadian comic shop. 4 of the 5 issues were always ones I either already bought or had no interest in. The other issue was always a store exclusive. I feel a lot of these mystery boxes today are the same. Comics with "value" and/or exclusives you never would have bought in the first place.

I bought one of the Brys mystery boxes and got the 8th place grand prize I spent 250 and got a piece of original art that’s valued around 2000 and I got the two 9.8 slabs as well I came out on top. Hit me up if you want to buy some original art by Jim starlin of Thanos and Adam warlock. I don’t think it’s as rigged as most people may think but there is zero guarantee of winning. That same box some people bought 10 and had their numbers put in 10 times and didn’t win any grand prizes.

I just received my box today, the two trade dress. A big chunk of plastic in the venom slab and a grease smudge inside the inner well of the spider gwen. Bry sent me return label so he can send them in and get them reholdered then back to me. So I won't see them again for who knows how long. Cgc's quality control is incompetent.

@@JernosComicsPopCulture well as you know it turns out the Dell’Otto cover wasn’t an original it turns out it was a reprint off a European marvel book over ten years ago. I really liked the cover so I was ok with spending the money but when I found out it wasn’t an original it really felt like a kick to the balls lol. I decided to keep the book and the bonus book I got which was a miles morales Bry cover bc I really don’t think Bry realized it (I hope he didn’t). But I’m steering away from mystery boxes for the foreseeable future. Only way I would do it again is if there’s a guaranteed book involved like how this box was minus the reprint dilemma.

On the contrary, someone just won an Amazing Fantasy 15, CGC graded in one of his boxes, and I have been in communication with them and there is proof.

What makes mystery boxes a scam is that they sell you a bunch of garbage that would languish on a shelf for 20 years. I don't believe that actual business people who have enough inventory to fill mystery boxes would risk not awarding prizes. When Bry's, who in my opinion runs a transparent business, scores 200k on a mystery box sale, he can afford to toss in a 60k book and some 1 and 2k books as prizes. That's not really my problem with it. My issue is that he's selling garbage and hope. I don't pay for hope or garbage. There are pretty good reasons why this sort of scheme is illegal in most states and that makes the liability risk massive.

I hear you, and this is why I don't like mystery boxes, because I don't care about random filler. But, I think as long as you are getting a market value of what you pay, then there is nothing to complain about if you'are putting the money into these things. I bought Tom's mystery boxes for about 5 months. Outside of a couple of amazing variants, most of it wasn't for me. But the stuff that wasn't for me, I was able to sell and at least break even.

I won a virgin dell'otto asm on the last box Bry did. I sold it for 1650 at auction. This box I did not win anything. I don't like the idea of mystery boxes but his is different I see it more as spend 250 for a chance at AF15 like a fun lotto ticket with better odds.

Ask yourself, why does the lottory exist that gives away millions, sometimes billions of dollars? Bry just gave away an AF15. The way it works for him, is that the appeal of winning such a big book increases the demand for the boxes. Bry makes such a high margin of profit that the cost/benefit analysis says there is more money to be made by catering to those that enjoy the gamble rather than just selling the AF15 alone.

Also, i don't like mystery boxes, and I'm sure a lot of them are not so great. Still, my point in this video is valid as well. I finally got to sit down and I read through this comment again. Again, I'm not familiar with any of the people you talked about, but it doesn't sound like you're pulling stuff out of thin are. I might look into that "dorkerys" thing if the videos are still up. If you took this as a shot towards you, believe me when I say I had not even a thought about you when I thought about making this video, nor while recording it. You are definitely someone that doesn't "rage bait" in order to boost your KZbin. Now, you ARE vocal on IG, or in the comments on videos, but you're just passionate, and that's fine, even if I don't always agree with you. YOU personally are definitely in a very different league than who I'm addressing in this video. So since I'm not lumping you into some rage baiter trying to get clicks and views, please don't lump me into a group of "KZbinrs" who would rather turn the other cheek in order to remain in the circle jerk. Remember though, there are circle jerks on boths sides of this thing. And like I said in the video, I actually reeeaalllly don't like mystery boxes. I tried Tom's for a few months. I got a couple that had some fire variants that I kept, but they just weren't for me (btw, I never got special treatment from him either). But when you have hard working individuals that have put in the work to build their business of selling comics AND building a youtube channel, and you have other people simply rage baiting them in order to get clicks and views, I will smoke them out the back door and be waiting outside with a thousand proverbial cameras. And I'll put them on front street without even saying their name, to make sure that I don't give them free publicity.

Couple things. There are almost certainly a non zero number of people doing shady shit and not actually seeding the mystery boxes. HOWEVER, its a low number because why would you burn your entire business, that's dumb. Also, most Whatnot sellers who do the blind bag/box/whatever actually OPEN THEM on stream and show everyone who got what, so that's absolutely a thing. Thirdly, show us the kitteh or we riot. :D
